Our local knife shop still has the original 83mm Manix New In Box still in stock.
Spyderco Manix 83 mm C101G
S30V - ffg - lockback
The asking price is $189 .. Is this still a good deal?
I know they have been discontinued for quite a while now ..
Just wondering as I am seriously considering pulling the trigger on it. Even before we make the pilgrimage to Golden later this month.

Still? No. Nowdays? Maybe. If I remember right, that was full MSRP when they were in production, which means $50 to $60 over normal street price. But finding a new one these days is uncommon.

rycen: Its the plain edge S30V.

yablanowitz: He has at least one in the display case. Not sure how many more are still sitting on the shelf. It seems to me that within the last 6 months or so they finally sold their last full sized original Manix.
I dont have a big problem paying full retail on it given that they are getting harder and harder to find ..
I may see if he is willing to give me a bit of a deal - hey it never hurts to ask right :)

I'd say it's a bit high. If you can get it for $150 that would be pretty decent I think. Especially when you think that is about the average cost of most spyderco these days.

A little high but probably less than what you would pay on the forum or eBay. I think I would have a hard time not picking than one up with a bit of a discount.

Thanks for the input guys .. will let you know how it all goes over the next week or so.

I paid 175 for mine. Not a great price but it's not too bad. So from a retail store, NIB, it's not bad.

Hi Bill, did you ever purchase that 83mm Manix? If they have more I was wondering if you would mind sharing the name and phone number of that knife shop? I have every variant of the the Manix 2 (except CF) and may be interested in getting an older model.

Thanks
C

Hey cchin01.
I havent picked it up yet unfortunately ... Gonna have to wait till next month I think.

The store contact info is as follows:
Cutting Edge Cutlery Co
(306) 359-3343
Victoria Square Mall
Regina, SK

If you still wanted it you may have just shot yourself in the foot. The original Manix seems to be pretty desirable.

LOL It would not be the first time I have ever done that :) And I am sure it wont be the last time either.

If I dont get one, I will live as there are still a whole lot of other blades on the "I gotta have that one bad" list.

Bill, thanks for the info. I did reach out to the shop but the level of knowledge was a little lacking for whoever I was dealing with. They gave me C83BMP NIB, $205 usd shipped which is the part# for a Persian.

Oh well, it was a nice to have but I didn't absolutely have to have it.

Thanks again

If you could drop me a line I would like to get the shop name from you and see if he has one more of those left. I would like to grab one if possible.

I wish Sal would make some new Manixes with the original lock.

M.

They are going to :) Don't know which sizes, but with the fun they had making the backlock for the Native5 it seems an enthusiasm was fostered for revisiting the Manix
