Love my 12" Fiddleback machete, I have one question about the handle, is there a purpose (other than looking really cool) to the 3 holes in the handle?

My understanding is that typically multiple lanyard holes are provided for different grip options.......in heavy use hand & arm fatigue can become an issue that can be addressed by adjusting the position of the lanyard.

That's pretty interesting. I never really gave it much thought, but that makes total sense.

I find it a potential safety issue. . .if not on your wrist, a lanyard loop at the butt end of the handle can catch on something and pull the blade into your hand, if the lanyard is attached near the blade, there is less chance of this happening.

I figured there were 3 holes because the number 3 has special meanings. ie, 3 resonates with the Ascended Masters, (teacher, healer, prophet) and they are around you assisting when asked .. helping you focus on the Divine spark within yourself .. helping you find peace, clarity, understanding.

Or .. i maybe i just stood outside too long in direct sunlight and need to up my water intake along with cool my body core temperature ... and there's 3 holes in the handle cause 2 didn't seem like it was enough and 4 was too many. Heh.

Its like olives in a martini... It should always be an odd number, one looks silly and 5 is too many. 3 is the only option.

LOL. That's too funny

I figured they were there for potentially lashing the machete to a pole for knocking fruit, etc. out of trees or as an improvised weapon.

Yeah, could go either way there eh? :)

I think instead of finding the original reason for the three holes, we have discovered many reasons it has worked out good and been found to serve a purpose. 😄

The original reason

"Because that's how I designed the first one"

But the other reasons are cooler

The three hollow tubes are used on the machetes because they are a good lightweight pin. I guess it adds functionality for lanyard users. I find lanyards dangerous. They could also serve for lashing the machette to a pole. Thats not the intent, but it would work.

Are the three tubes easier to keep sanded flush with the scale than the original pins? The pins sure like to stand proud.
