Hello, I have just started dabbling in the art of knife making and I have a whole bunch of random tools like files vices and a belt sander but I have been having trouble shaping the steel with just a hacksaw and I was wondering how y'all' shape your knives like is there a special saw I could buy but the only problem is I'm only thirteen and on a budget I have less than $70 to spend so there a challenged for y'all thank you for you time -Calvin

Best advice I can give you is to not cut too much off at a time. you can only get the hack saw blade to follow a curve so far. Cut a little then cut from the outside to your curve cut to take a chnunk off. The staight cuts you can do all right but those curves will flex the blade too much.

Use a high tension frame. I use a fine blade, 32 TPI or 36 TPI if I can find one. Make small cuts from the edge to your blade shape. Take your time and have patience.

In most magazines there is a 20% discount at harbor freight. The portable bandsaw I think is $80, with 20% off is 74. See if you can find it on sale or hit up black friday if there is one nearby. Most members here rave about them.

Lol he probably can, hey I was tired. So yeah $64 falls within his budget.

I would recommend this over a angle grinder ecspecially for someone learning.
