I was recently browsing the Busse pic thread and saw a few shots of blades with a red coating.

Upon further investigation I found out that it was called Alabama Clay. Or maybe Bama clay.

I have never seen a blade coating I like more than that.

Can anyone tell me more about this color?

How hard are the red knives to find?

I also think blue would be pretty sweet.

Hey bud, bama clay  Not as common as most other colors but it certainly isn't impossible to find. Im thinking it mainly shows up at shows but could be mistaken. Its a real cool looking color but from the ones Ive handled, the coating has been very very rough. First time I handled one I was quite surprised with how rough it was. No less still cool

Hey, man, you have the BCS Championship, the greatest comeback ever in the Iron Bowl, the Heisman Trophy, and likely a permanent grin, isn't that enough for you, now you want an orange Busse, too?;)

The only time I recall it being available on the Busse Combat website for order was for the Tank Buster which had an insane number of possibilities. It has been in the Company Store, Ganzaas and at Shows too. Trail Wolf will check in shortly to espouse all of its great qualities. :foot: :D

I use to kind of like Auburn, but after Cam Newton's Heisman speech, ehhhh :foot:

As for the bama clay, it's only offered on certain models (B-11, BWM (I think), Tank Buster, to name a few). It is VERY rough, almost like 60 grit sand paper.

Swamp Rat has offered a red coating (not quite Bama clay, but close) on the Waki, up coming Rucki, M9, and maybe the Chopweiler.

Interesting observation there. Does it "rub" in a sheath more than other colors. I mean the little marks like kydex makes.

I don't own one, just felt up plenty. But the bama clay coating is pretty thick, so it might rub. But a lot of kydex makers make plenty of room in the sheaths, the pressure on the scales are what holds it in place, not the pressure on the blade. So it might rub, might not, but if you use it it'll come off anyway so....

It wasn't directly available from Busse Combat but I have seen some in pictures from show offerings. :) I remember it that way and confirmed it at Busse Collector. I think the Tank Buster was the one time you could order a knife to be made that color. I don't think we'll ever have the number of options we had for the TB again.

Gotta love that Bama Clay, and you gotta double love the Public Defender!

I too am a big fan of this color. I would love a B11 in this color. Hopefully when the B10 is released that will be an option.

I forget who, but someone had an ASH1 in bama clay a couple of months ago, maybe trail wolf, maybe not, can't remember for sure who but I know it was a SH (might have even been an FSH or HHFSH, but definitely a SH of a more recent variety).
