If i were to Break the tan grooved micarta scales on my 1/300, and sent it back, Would it come back with modern scales on it? or Smooth Bolts would they get replaced!! With TUBES!!! I use my oldies!!

Just wondering!

just wrap it in cord and call it a strider. Seriously, Busse will not do bolts anymore, so if you send it in, it will get replaced with tubes. However, I have never broken a micarta handle. I have chipped G10, but never broken it either, so I don't think you have to worry.

I dono bout you, but IF I had an original I would use it. I mean if it's the knife you want to use....use it. If you want to keep it a safe queen than find a different one to carry.

Thanks, D.. i dont worry about the INFI or A-2, just the older handle stuff, like Brass tubes, or smooth bolts, but, i can do that stuff, i would just pull the handles, if i were to send one in!

I remember a post from Jerry Busse himself, addressing this issue.

If I remember correctly, he said that the policy is to replace it with a currently available knife that is now selling for a similar price as the original.

I believe the example he gave was the Silent Knight. He said (I'm paraphrasing from here) that if you have bought an original Silent Knight for $1700, and destroy it, Busse will only replace it with a current production model of similar value to the original price of the Silent Knight.

If someone wants to do a search with those terms, I'm sure they can get the exact quote.

great if i bust my 1/300, ShBM, i can get a Sweet, loaded, CGNMSFNO!! to replace it!! where do I sign up! lol But, I have alot of faith in my oldies! Infi was and Is good stuff! like i said, i would just worry about preserving the history of the knives! but, I might be in better shape than some, reproducing scales and coatings!

I just found the original post in about 2 seconds:

"SpearHead,

You are a "Giver" my friend. . . a gosh darned giver!!! I think that Skunk's Porkdar has gone off and he is detecting that early Birds Beak Steel Heart that you own . . . . I think you better post a pic before he jumps on a dogsled and heads north!!!!!

Alpha,

If a discontinued Busse suffers major damage we will replace it with a knife that is valued at our original selling price. So, if you damage an original Silent Knight, that are now valued at approx. $1,200.00, we will replace it with a $287.00 blade, since that is how much we were originally paid for it. I think I would "baby" some of the older blades . . . but then you run the risk of them running away to find a more abusive home!!!!

Jerry"

When that knife was mine, I didn't even know it was a 1/300... Sheesh, I woulda' used it had I known ;)

Hmmm, I was under the impression that Jerry kept a surplus of blanks from his past line for the purpose of fulfilling his warranty obligations should they ever be called in.

Guess I was wrong about that one!!!

I think if I ever busted my (straight handle) Satin Jack LE and was sent something in the same price range as a replacement (NMSFNO or something?) I think I'd be royally upset. Probably to the point of abandoning brand loyalty.

If it was just the scales though, as much as I like black paper, I don't think I'd lose my cool over getting G10 as a replacement. Though it wouldn't be preferable to black paper, obviously.

Winmag!! you used it some!!!! didn't you find it at a yard sale!!! lol

I only cut hair and air with it! I may as well have found it at a yard sale... I got that, a SHSHII Fatty and SHBA all with kydex sheaths for... a GREAT price ;)

Now, all I have to show for it is a Thin Nick I got in partial trade... I always swear that I will never sell another Busse or Firearm. Some things just can't be replaced!

scale matieral wouldnt be a big deal to me either, except for the fact this is the only tan handle SHBM! but who cares!! they are just knives! I make them everyday!!! I just really would think Jerry would want to preserve his legacy.. keeping old knives in service! it only benefits him ! I think Jerry and Garth would bend over backwards to make it right! or i would just remake the grooved scales!

I think it's relatively rare for Jerry to have to replace a knife, if it were me I'd rather cut out a blank, have the custom shop do their thing and send the knife owner a repro of their original knife (especially if it's a legacy blade) than risk upsetting a losing a customer.

I believe that's what would happen!! They would do their best!:D

Fear naught, I have done about as Stupid and destructive of a knife crap with my one of three hundred as ever I have heard of.

You might need to replace hole type fasteners and that is easy to do.

You will not accidently harm a screw type, it just will not happen, and I have one with Hammer marks.

Don Worry, Be Happy.
