I just finished putting a new edge on my ZT0770CF with Elmax steel. I finished on the Kalamozoo belt grinder with a 20 micron belt. Very few scratches under a 5x magnification. As I stropped by hand using 0.50 diamond spray and then 0.25 diamond spray I have noticed that there seemed to be more scratches the when it came off the belt. Have you run into this before? I would be surprised if my strop was contaminated as I always wipe the blade before and after using them.
I decided to clean the 0.25 strop first with 320 grit emery followed by WD40 on a clean rag. Then followed up with a leather cleaner and conditioner. The photo shows the clean 0.25 along side the 0.50.
Was also wondering how anyone knows if you have embedded any grit from the 320 emery in the leather. This is the first time using emery on a strop. The strop is still a bit damp so will not apply any diamond spray till it's dry.
