What is the factory primary edge bevel angle for the TM, SRK, and Recon Scout when western grinds are applied?

I got ahold of a used Carbon V SRK off Ebay, which up until a week ago I have been able to keep razor sharp, w/ minor relief adjustment, but those days are over.

Hi,
I'm not sure. Give our customer services team a call at (805) 658-0180 - they will be able to advise you
Thanks

I called them, and the rep said 27 degrees! I don't know about anyone else who reads this, but that sounds just a little bit high to me.

Im going w/ 25 each side...I know the edge needs to be really steep on the outdoor knives in question, but 25 seems like a good middle of the road compromise.

Do you work for Cold Steel? Just for the record, I love Cold Steel blades, I have a few and have a new Recon XL on the way... that being said, if you work from them you should be answering the question not giving a phone number... that is real customer service. I am a boss in a customer service environment, don't take this as critical feedback... it's an opportunity...

Hi
Yes, I work for Cold Steel but I'm not a member of the Customer Services team.
I have quite a few years of experience here at CS but I don't have the depth and breadth of knowledge that the Customer Services team do.
For example, I have a lot more experience and knowledge regarding folders than fixed blades or swords, but I've been here at CS for some time (even though I'm new here on BladeForums) and I've been involved in several of our video shoots as well as the daily QC tests etc...So I know a bit about the products - but not as much as our very knowledgeable Customer Services staff who have an excellent all round knowledge of everything we make, and have made over the last 30+ years
.
It does say on my signature that I'm not a member of the customer services team, but please by all means ask any questions you like. I'll always do my best to advise.
I do my best to answer every question that I can and I'm always happy to help, but if I don't know the answer I'll pass it to the experts ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I always aim to be better at what I do
Have a great day

Tikki, I think you could take any of those knives down to 20* per side and still have plenty of durability. Nothing wrong with 25* per side if that's what you're comfortable with, though. Super steep angles aren't uncommon on factory edges. My Gerber Steadfast was ~28* per side, and both my Tops knives were ~30* per side.:D I've since taken all three down to 20* per with a 25* micro bevel. They cut much better. I'm actually of the opinion that it's better for companies to leave heavy duty blades at steeper angles, so the customer can decide whether to thin them out or leave them steep (the old adage applies that you can always remove metal but you can't put it back).

Amen to that!

Taking a SRK down to 20 degrees w/o a wet-grinding system, or Japanese waterstones would be a PITA, much less the mighty TM though!.

Im thinking a convex hybrid, like whats produced w/ the Worksharp, but I don't know if the Worksharp angle guides will accomodate steel that thick.

The Ken Onion version has adjustable angle guides.....
