Are they from the same era?
What's the function and history behind it?

Many thanks ;)

Jay

dunno but I like it. I can imagine it on a few of the larger khuks... I'd love that!

Warty,

Found this at Ramanon from Sta94 as well:

Kumar Kobra with filing marks on blade and funky cho, I think around 20” -22” OAL, light & fast. Looks pretty different from the current Kobra models, from the cho to the pointy tip, not to mention the less-seen file markings on the blade.

With a thicker spine, it would be a formidable chopper!:thumbup::thumbup:

Warty,

They look good and perform well too. Clean up is a bear. You'll go crazy before you get pine tar out.

They are probably from roughly the same era as not all that many were sold due to the fact that the cross hatch pattern made them notoriously hard to clean after use. After the first run of them Uncle Bill was very reluctant/ refused to have more made. The history of it is that it was patterned after an ancient model that is on display at Nepal's National Museum.

On the other hand, The Kumar Kobra with seemingly the same pattern was actually forged by kumar from a large old used up file.

Thanks Karda,

Yes it looked HARD to clean if the filer is deeply cut.
Why is it filed at the 1st place?

Thanks

Jay

I would be getting it more as a display model than a user, I wonder if that can be asked for still.

I guess I can find out, I like the way it looks and I already have the two khukuries I use outside all the time. I actually have all the actual khukuries I planned on getting for now. All I am doing now is getting cool looking ones for the display, like that one I bought with the funky horn handle hook and the ornate gray horn scabbard. I am not using that at all, it is for looking at... :)

Warty,

I emailed Auntie about it.
This will mos def be used for max with a thicker spine.
I was thinking more like a tool for chopping woods and file it accordingly...to suit the user intention?

But i have to agree the filing profiles on HI version is more consistent than the one offered by Thamel House.

Well, then certainly let me/us know what she replies. I think it looks cool. :)

I'd like to see one myself, let's hope someone reading this decides to go ahead and post up a picture for us. :)

I hear ya Mike. I saw this yesterday while I was in Akron. Just got home today and I'll try to get some pics taken and processed for tomorrow.

It was a while back, warty. I couldn't believe it was still available when I saw it and felt like I was stumbling in my effort to get it. It is the second from left on the bottom of the lame picture I posted on the Entire Collection post (Thread page 3).

Stick,

Saw it on that post.
Wowzer! That blade is serious.

Many thanks for your effort.:thumbup::thumbup:

Oh well... :( I still love ya' both. :)

I am getting ready for my Big Purge of (many) Khukuries and a few Swords as well...
When I am paid, I can become a paid member so I can post a FS ad and this is when it will happen.
