Questions about 5270 and 5500

i'm looking for a new EDC knife. i lost my Kershaw Leek (S30V w/ black G10 grips) and i figured i might as well upgrade. i'm looking at auto knives and what seems similar in size to the Leek were the mini-Presidio series. i was hoping for some feedback on these knives to help me make a decision.

it seems like the two major differences between these knives is that the 5270 has 440c vs the 154cm in the 5500 and the 5270 is lighter b/c it uses Noryl GTX material which i'm unfamiliar with. is that GTX material similar to G10? if it is will it chew up my clothing like my G10 grips did?

should i go for the 5500 b/c of the 154cm steel? the 440c and the 154cm seem to be basically the same in hardness so i figured it's almost a wash.

so, i'm fighting between these two but i'm also considering a 943 but the 943 doesn't come in auto, as far as i know.

Thanks for any help.

I have the 5270 and like it really well. Nothing wrong with 440C and the Noryl seems to go easier on the pockets than G10. The steel sharpens and keeps its edge similar to 154 -cm.

I'm not sure if you're dead set on an auto, but I can tell you that the 940/943 knives are so fast you won't miss an auto/assisted.

The Grivory® texturing on the Presidio Ultra family won't be as harsh on your pocket as our texture G10 offerings (915, AXIS Stryker, etc).

The 943 is great choice for an EDC. Light weight and extremely comfortable in your pocket. You could potentially even go with the even lighter weight 940-1 which weights in at 2.44 oz.

thank you! the 2 main items holding me back from the 940 series is that it's not an auto, and it's just a bit bigger than i'd like. i'm going to try to find a dealer near me (Dallas) and see if i can have these two in my hands before i make my decision. i'd really like to see how fast i can open the 940 series. i've had problems flicking out knives with my thumb as i've torn a few ligaments in it in college.

well i got to go handle both the 5270 and the 943 today. i ended up going home with a 943SBK. i can flick open the 943 almost as fast a the 5270 auto. both are great knives and i will very likely buy the 5270 as i believe it feels great in my hand. the grips are not as aggressive as G10, but i feel i can get excellent grip with it. the auto mechanism is so fast and aggressive you can feel the blade snap into place when it opens. it was a tough choice but in the end i bought the 943 b/c it's a bit slimmer and has a longer blade, and better steel. if they make a 5270 out of S30V or better, i'm getting one.
