I recently bought a large amount of woodworking tools from an estate sale. While finishing the sale the owner tried to convince me to buy some knives he had made/collected over the years.
I bought two of them for $50. One is a utility knife I use around the shop, the other is the Randall in the pictures below. When I bought it I didn't know what it was but it felt well balanced and it was in good condition.
I had planed to use it as a utility knife but I had second thoughts after researching the Randall name.I have a few questions about the knife and how it should be cared for:
-The blade is in good shape but it has one spot of corrosion/damage towards the guard. Should I send it back to Randalls to be polished? Just have it sharpened? Or leave it as is?
-The sheath it came with is marked 157 utility/bowie. I assume it is from a different knife. The sheath holds the knife well and is compact, it works well for fishing. Should I have Randall make a replacement sheath or look to find a used one on e-bay?
-Do you have any idea how old the knife is?
-Do you think the handle is Rosewood? If so what is the best way to maintain it?
Thanks

You will have to host your pictures on a website somewhere and post links to them in your message. Otherwise they won't show up.

You cannot ask for the value of a knife without having a paid membership, but if you get your photos to show up someone might be able to give you other information about the knife. You can also search the big auction site for past Randall sales to find information about your knife.

I would recommend not doing anything to your knife except possibly putting oil on the blade, until you find out more about it. Randall's can be worth a lot of money depending on age and model. Messing with them can significantly reduce the value.
