I recently purchased an old Case P10051L SSP that was manufactured in 1981. It is a folding lockback that measures 3 3/4 closed and 6 3/8 opened. It has a brass liners and bolsters with pakkawood handles. I have been looking around the internet trying to find the years of production and any other info that may be out there. Other then a couple that are for sale I haven't found much. Anybody have one, or know anything about this knife? I will post pics once the knife arrives.

"The P10051L SSP with glazed finish stainless steel drop point blade and a brass frame with smooth black Pakkawood handles" was introduced in 1980 and discontinued after 1989. (From Collecting Case Knives: Identification and Price Guide by Steve Pfeiffer.) I believe the initial "P" indicates Pakkawood and the "SSP" refers to glazed Stainless Steel with Polished edges. The "10" refers to synthetic handle material, the pattern number is 051, and the "L" is for lockback.

Excellent, thanks for the info. It seems that this knife is either rare or wasn't very popular as there isn't a lot of them out on the internet.

As I recall hey were made by ALCAS for Case. ALCAS was a joint venture between Case and Alcoa and the subsidiary was making other medium size lock-back knives. Case needed a medium LB in their line to complement the Mako, Hammerhead and Shark Tooth and contracted several variations; your variation, a Delrin handled variation, another wooden handled variation without the brass end bolster and a stainless steel handled version. All I have seen were made with a stainless steel drop-point blade. They were made from the late 70's into the early 1980's. I have one of the Delrin handled versions. OH

Yes, according to Steve's book, the 051 was introduced in 1976 with the 21051L SSP, 61051L SSP, and M1051L SSP. The Pakkawood version was introduced in 1980. The P10051 1/2 L SSP came out in 1981 with a clip blade. The P10051L SSP was originally incorrectly marked as 061051L SSP, and 5000 were produced with that pattern number. The 051 was discontinued after 1989.

Thanks for all the info. This is only my 2nd Case knife. I just stared collecting knives about 5 months ago. I have a fondness for older lockbacks so I'm sure a few more Case knives will make their way into my collection.

This thread caused me to pull my variation out and carry it a few days. OH

Silverbeard_EDC Silverbeard_EDC I’ve never seen one with that unique Clip blade - I like the look of it.
J Jeepfreak93 I had no trouble looking at your pictures. Are you pocket carrying or sheath carrying? Those brass bolsters look like they add a bit of weight. OH
