Questions about batoning with Adamas and differences between versions

I heard the original Adamas and Mini Adamas had the Axis lock disengage when batoning bc the pin didn't sit deep enough. Did they fix this with the gen 2 and how do I know if my Mini or gen 1 would have this issue?

I would not worry about it. As beeinak says, unlock before batoning with it. Or use it to carve a wood wedge and baton the wedge instead.

My Adamas 1 has a thicker and heavier grip. It's noticeably less pleasant than the Adamas 2. Is the blade steel stronger in the 2? Are there any advantages to a 1 over a 2? The 2 is much more ergonomic for me. I haven't used my 1 since.

The CPM Cruwear in the updated Adamas is considerably tougher than the D2 of the original. That allowed them to thin the blade and reduce the weight, making for a more comfortable carry. And the Cruwear blade is still going to be stronger. Cruwear outclasses D2 in every way.

I batoned my first-gen Adamas through some hardwood some years back, and while it split the wood just fine, it developed up and down blade play instantly. I did what I could to remedy it but ended up sending it to Benchmade to take a look at, confessing fully what I'd done. I mean, I thumped on it pretty hard. BM wrote me within a few days saying that I'd deformed the liners above where the Axis bar sits in the locked-open position, creating permanent blade play once the Axis bar reached full-forward positioning. They replaced the liners for me at my request at what I considered a nominal fee and I learned my lesson - no more batoning folders, even overbuilt folders. As mentioned, I'd definitely do it in the unlocked position if I ever really needed to baton with it again, though this seems like a clunky way to skin a cat.
