How does the paperstone hold up to repeated washings (not soakings, just washings)? Is paperstone paper micarta?

If you have one of Buck's chef knives, do you still like it? Would you recommend it over similarly priced chef knives like the Fibrox line by Victorinox?

Bucks website says they are dishwasher safe so I wouldn't be afraid of them.

If one should fail, there is always Bucks warranty.

As far as I can tell, although the particular chemicals used are different and I don't think paperstone uses a strictly layered construction, it's basically the equivalent of paper micarta as a material, perhaps even a bit better for structural purposes.

Dish Washer + knives = bad. Regardless of whether the handle can tolerate it or not.

If you are going to do that you might as well split wood with a knife and a wooden club.

Er. Never mind. Nothing to see here..... :D

Still wouldn't put a knife in the dishwasher, other than a butter knife. I don't have paperstone handles but I do have a micarta type that has held up well to hand washing.

Cheese, Welcome . We own Buck's complete Kitchen knife set and the catalog as well as the paperwork that comes with them state they are dishwasher safe . However, we always hand wash them . I've owned Victorinox knives and the Buck's hold the edge much better something like 2-1 or better . Bucks heat treat is good . I bought them for my wife in April of last year and she's used them a lot and been very happy with them . We've been married 22yrs. and have owned other kitchen knives that didn't hold up like these . They are worth it . DM

 We have the rosewood set, and they are great.

Plus, Buck does have great service and fantastic warranty! ;)

It's been a few years now that I gave Mom a couple of 470 Mentors. Then a couple years ago, she picked up one of my rubber handled S30V Vanguards. She took a liking to it so I just left it with her.

I sharpen them all up for her when I am there, and just never told her not to run them through the dishwasher.

There is no telling how many times they have been run through her dishwasher.

I gave them a good looking at this past hunting season and can't tell a bit of difference in them and a normally used knife. Maybe some day they will fail, who knows. Meanwhile she will keep using them. They are her go to kitchen knives. Of course she likes the vanguard as she says it stays sharp longer, but she likes the clip blade on the 470 the best.

Assuming the knives are made of materials that are dishwasher safe, the only thing to be sure of is to place your knives in the dishwasher where they cannot move around and have the edges bang against anything else.

It is so quick and easy to wash a knife by hand, I would not consider putting one through a dishwasher. There are many good options for storage racks and the good old wood block works for me.

we have the rosewood set and they're great. have held up to a lot of use. they've never been in the dishwasher since i usually will quickly wash/dry and a couple strops to keep em honed.

Yes, Thanks wolf, that does look odd . I'll correct it . I really liked those Rosewood models but the paperstone are first rate as well . DM

I provided the paperstone kitchen knife sets to both of my daughters and to my sister. The reviews have been outstanding. My wife has used the rosewood Dymondwood set for at least two years and they are likewise excellent. The dymondwood handles could use a bit of buffing to restore the original sheen, but my wife is pretty hard on her kitchen knives. She is also pretty hard on me but that is another topic!!

My set of Henckels are supposed to be dishwasher safe, but I have read they will fade, so I wash them by hand.

I do remember CJ Buck saying at the Smokey Mountain Meeting last year that he tried a paperstone knife (pre-production) and put it in the dishwasher for about a year and did not notice any fading. So, he thought it would be a good product to use.
