I´m planning to get a CS SRK, but I´d like to be sure about several features:
1.- Which is the edge ground type? I already know that it´s a 'saber ground', but I´m not sure about the primary bevel profile? Is it hollow, flat or convex?
2.- How deep goes the tang into the handle, and what kind is it?
3.- Is it possible to change the kraton handle for anything harder (micarta, sambar slabs, hard wood) in a simple way and with the usual tools in a normal house?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my English.

Hola Sevilla!
The SRK is good, the Fallkniven A-1 is better.
Welcome aboard!

The edge on the SRK is bevelled. You may want to file it back a bit; I found the original edge was good for chopping but too steep to take a shaving edge. Carbon V is a very good steel, easy to sharpen, very strong, holds an excellent edge. It will rust though. The tang is very thick and extends almost to the butt of the handle. I doubt you could break it without heavy machinery. To change the grip you would have to do some re-profiling with a Dremel or similar tool, as there are some angles to accommodate the kraton grip. I find CS kraton grips to be excellent, although some Bladeforum members comment that they chafe when the knife is used for chopping. I use an ax or kuhkri for chopping so that is not a problem for me. The SRK has enough curve that it can be used for skinning, at least on large animals (moose). The Fallkniven line is also excellent. VG-10 is an outstanding stainless steel, but a bit more difficult to sharpen.

A noticeable difference between the Fallkniven A1 and the SRK is weight. The A1 is around 1/4in thick and weighs 12 onces while the SRK is 3/16in thick and weighs 8 onces.

Fudo, Alberta Ed and Johno: Thank you for your useful answers.
BTW, johno: did you know that there´s another Camas in Spain? It´s a little town close Sevilla, and 'camas' means 'beds' in Spanish.

I have both. While I think the A-1 is a better knife overall, the SRK has its place. Johno makes a good point; The lighter weight of the SRK is not to be ignored.

When around moist environs, especially salt water, I always go with the A-1. The SRK is my "strapped to the backpack" general user/beater. While not the best knife in its class, it is much bang for the buck, IMO.

If the VG10 used in the A1 is attractive but the weight isn't, consider the 5in, 0.2in thick S1 as it weighs a bit less than 7 onces.

There isn't much Spanish influence up here, it's mainly the English from the Hudson Bay company, so I think that the town name is a coincidence. I think it's an Indian name for a lily in the area.
