i am intrested in purchasing my tanto recon 1 and i would like honest opinions of the quality and practicality of this blade ... i am also considering purchasing a bradley mayhem and would like similar information on this blade as well:confused:

if its the recon 1 folder, i had one for a while. it wasnt bad,its a bit large, & the pocket clip is set down a bit on the butt, so it will stick out of your pocket a bit. it was sharp, smooth opening, comfortable to carry.i liked the axis type lock, not too crazy about the black coated blade.i got bored with it & sold it.i wish it was satin finished & had g10 handles.theres no reason for coating their 420 or 440 steel blades other than to cut costs on satin finishing the blades, a trend i see more & more.

Yes, I'm interested too. Has anyone handled the new vesion with the aus-8 blade and G-10 scales? I know there's a plethora ("would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?"--El Guapo, the 3 Amigos) of opinions on the old model with the "440 sub-zero quench" and zytel scales, but this new model might be worth a look....

Mine is AUS8, but an older pre-440 model made in Japan without G10 scales. It takes an edge really well on the Sharpmaker, doesn't hold it too long but who cares as it's a pleasure to sharpen! I stabbed through my friend's cheap'n'nasty "stab proof" vest with it no problem. Blade can be flicked out from fully closed without using the thumb, probably due in some measure to the teflon coating on the blade. Not sure if it's as tough as Cold Steel make out, but certainly a good solid enough user.

I own the older model and carried it for a few years , I hope you like carrying bigassed folders around.
Never had the lock fail on me and it did come in handy , it's just way too big of a folder for me to EDC.
