Questions about composite blade & Kershaw Rake

Just ordered a Kershaw Rake through kershawguy, but had some questions about the composite blade on this particular knife.

Why does the cutting edge look darker in some pictures, and the same color in others? I like the looks of the darker steel, but have seen pictures of it both the same color as the other steel and some show it much darker.

Also, how many of you guys have this knife? Like it?

It's probably just the lighting in the pictures (e.g., a bright camera flash) that makes the two steels look similar in color. I haven't picked up a Rake yet, but I do have a CB Leek and CB JYD 2, both of which have a CPM-D2 cutting edge and 14C28N spine. In both, the dark-light contrast between the CPM-D2 and 14C28N is very pronounced in person, and since the Rake uses the same steels for its composite blade, it'd almost certainly be the same.

Heres an example of what I mean

I think I'm the one who shot that top comparison pic and I can tell you that it's the lighting. I use a light tent and the light is very diffuse with minimal shadows. The shooting angle was also at an oblique so that has something to do with it as well.

The early proto's (bottom pic) were etched, and we opted out of the process for production.

You will still see a slightly varied finish with the 2 steels used in the Rake's blade, but not nearly the contrast should we have added the etch.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you for the informed reply Thomas. Any reason why you guys opted out on the etching? I think it looks much better etched. Would it have increased the price of the knife too much or was it just a design change?

How is the speedsafe on this knife? I just picked up a Boa, love the knife, but the speedsafe is sub par compared to other AO knives I've used/owned (Camillus Heat, Kershaw Chive).

it's my first AO knife, so I'm a bad judge.
I think it's quick enough, but I've read where other people think it's "slow".
either way, it definitely opens with authority.

I guess I'll have to buy a Blur as well then (wanted one anyways :D), as I'd love to have a lightning fast Kershaw.

I've asked my dealer to get me one and he says it's not available
are they fully out oc still coming out?
