Greetings all,

I am getting back in to traditional again (and fountain pens too!) after some time focusing on other things. I just picked up a few interesting ones weekend before last that I am not having much luck finding info about them.

The first two are by Dan Burke, and read up some about him and seen a number of his knives, but I can't find any exactly like these two, so I am just curious about vintage, approx value, etc.

The materials on the half congress seem pretty straight forward (BG-42 blades and nice bone). The single blade I presume the handles are titanium, but no idea about the blade.

So far I have had no luck at all finding anything about this one, or even for certain who B. Foster is (was?). The blades are marked 440C and the edges are convexed. It is a stout little thing.

Any info, pointers, comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Danny

I can't help with any information, but wanted to mention how beautiful that half congress knife is.

Dan Burke is an exceptional maker. Active in the mid-late nineties.

Haven't seen much of his work lately, but he was one of the top slipjoint makers 20 or so years ago. Won some Blade awards in the early 2000's. He'd be about 80 now so no doubt he's slowed down.

Beautiful half Congress.

The half congress is an older knife...vintage would be a guess maybe 90’s. The other I have no idea. He’s been off the radar for a number of years. I bought a knife from him several years ago and he had moved to Canada..Nova Scotia or New Brunswick if I recall correctly.

The other maker I’m not familiar with. The only B Foster I know is Burt and he is an ABS MS that doesn’t make folders.

Thanks very much for the information and kind words everyone! I didn’t realize the Half Congress was that old a knife. It is a beautiful little thing. The pictures really don’t do the bone justice.

You might try Levine’s subforum as well. They could help with valuations as well as possibly having information on the second maker.
Thanks, Neal

I don't know anything about it, but that Foster whittler is absolutely amazing. I love the blade assortment.
