Does anyone have one? If so, impressions?

Does it come with an unserrated blade?

And where is it made???

I don't have the model you are asking about, but Emerson knives are pretty decent. I guess it is their design don't exactly meet my interests or needs.

In my book the one big positive of Emerson knives is that they are made right here in the USA using only USA materials. :D For me, this is a good reason to take a close look at what they build and to buy it if it fits your needs.

:)

Interesting. Thank you. USA made is good by me. But I love your post cause your description of Emerson knives as "decent".. after reading the self loving blurb by Mr. Emerson on his site and how elite they are. I LOL'ed.

They are decent, but there are just too many other knives that suit me better. Plus, and this is just me, I'm not in to all that combat stuff. I pray to God that I never have to defend either my or my family's life...if I do I will, but the promotion of combat as a grand thing is a bit goofy, IMO.

:)

I carried an Emerson CQC-7 Mini-A for over a year until I moved up to a Sebenza. As far as I'm concerned, Emerson knives are very well engineered and well made. I especially like the CQC-7 style because of the size and shape of the handles. I think his later knives are more oriented towards the mall ninjas with recurved blades, goofy shaped handles and all.

I asked earlier this year and they have no plans to make any more unserrated Minis.

One drawback to the Emerson knives if you're a right-hander is the blade grind; it is only ground on the left of the blade so a right-hander has difficulty making a thin slice of something.

iamsmiling has a good point about the grind. It's okay if you are left handed, but the grind doesn't work well for many cutting applications if you're right handed...feathersticks for example.

I do like the CQC-14 okay. It is a new knife that Emerson has out and has a more conventional grind. The blade on the CQC-14 is 2.7 inches making it legal to carry in more places. All in all, it's my favorite Emerson.

:)

I've got a CQC-14 too but I find the Sebenza is easier to carry due to the smaller handles.

Oh, definitely. The Sebenza is, IMHO, light years ahead of the 14 (or any other Emerson). But Applejacks doesn't like Sebenza based on a comment he made recently in another thread. What's wrong with the guy?

(I can't believe I have so much to say about Emersons...I'm really not an Emerson guy).

:)

I gave my son an Emerson CQC-7, waved, tanto that he loves. The wave funtion works very well; some like it and some don't. The blade is thick and good for tough jobs, penetration, etc, but not for fine, delicate slicing. If I were to buy one for myself, I would buy a conventional blade, instead of the tanto, which is difficut to sharpen, especially without maring the finish. The fit and finish are good. The pivot screw tends to loosen over time, and needs adjusting.

All in All, a tough functional knife.

I have this one, but have not carried it. It is one of the original models without the wave. I can only say that it sure appears to be a very well built knife.

I have sharpened a few other Americanized Tantos, and I think the key is to keep the knife "touched up," don't let it get too dull. JMO.

I have a model CQC7B with plain edge tanto blade and wave function from 2004.
It is put together very well with no bladeplay in any direction and perfect lock-up that cannot be made to fail with spinewhacking, slow or fast.
The liner does not move period.
The knife as a whole is rather small, but i have no doubts it will perform when the need arises.
You don't need a big knife to defend yourself, just a well thought out one.
Opening is as to be expected, lightning quick with the wave.

I also carry the model CQC13B Bowie with combo-edge and wavefunction from 2005, but although i like it's design, it isn't made as flawless as my CQC7B.
There is a little bladeplay to the sides as well as up and down, and tightening the pivot screw doesn't help, it only makes the knife harder to open.
Spinewhacking makes the liner walk all the way over the tangramp, but stops just before it falls off.
I won't trust this one for self defense, only as a general utility folder.
Handle is very secure in the hand though, and the blade design is practical and beautiful.

Emerson is among the most stand up guys in the industry and he makes a nice product and stands by it

I've got one and it's my favorite knife in my collection.
Makes a wonderful "clack" when opening or waving.
The G10 feels less rubbery than other G10s.
The thing is just a tank.

That said, I don't EDC it as I'm not into sharpening the chisel grind.

If Emerson made a knife that could be sharpened on a sharpmaker, I'd EDC it in a second.

imho EKI is a little above "decent" lol.

imho some of the best designs and knives around, ok at utility but really designed with SD in mind.

they are hard to beat for what they were designed for.

just because you arent interested in combat stuff doesnt mean a million others arent, and also doesnt mean that SD isnt a legit job for knives, though imho a lot of other things will work better ie guns.

Applejacks,

I did pull out my CQC-14 last night after seeing this thread and I have to say it is well built. So maybe I'll notch up my statement from Emerson's being "decent" to "pretty darn decent." Maybe that will make others here a bit happier too.

Still stick by my statement that the promotion of combat as grand and glorious (unless it is in defense of country or life) is goofy.

:)

goofy or not it seems to sell stuff, and EKI isnt anywhere close to some others (ie dark ops, cold steel, extreme shok ammo, etc.)
