questions about folding shovels

... or spades, or entrenching tools, or whatever they are most properly called.

I have a Glock, the one with the saw in the handle, and love it for geology/geotech work. It is a little springy when digging solid stuff, though. To anyone who owns one, will this shovel stand up to heavy use?

I am also looking for a case to carry it in when I throw it in the back of my field vest. The case would need to protect my vest's fabric from the blade's corners and generally contain dirt. I read once about someone's modification of a military case (cut a hole out for the handle's knob). Does anyone have recommendations?

My Glock shovel came with a case/sheath that fits the need you're describing..... I'd call Glock and see if they can't get you one.

To date mine has handled everything I've thrown at it, up to and including light chopping (scared me, though.) I really prefer my Cold Steel shovel over the Glock, but the Glock's a lot more compact and gets carried around more because of it.
