Questions about Large 21 Micarta

I have a few questions while I am saving for a Large 21. Does the Micarta ever wear out and kinda change colors? The reason I say that is that I have heard about other Micarta getting gross from sweat and oils from your hands. Also how much grip does it add compared to Plain 21? To the Sebenza owners with a double lug, do you find yourself using it and can you open the sebenza left handed without a double lug. Should I get a Plain 21 or Micarta? Thanks

I dig the Micarta inlays. They add a little extra grip, it is noticeable compared to the plain scales. As far as wearing out and getting gross, wipe them with windex when you take it apart to clean and you should be good. It will change colors from sweat and the like, but not permanently by any means.

With the double lugs, I like them, but honestly hardly ever use the left lug(I'm right handed) and I can open and close a right handed single lug Sebenza with my left hand, just takes some practice.

Whatever you choose now, you'll eventually end up with both, but I would go with the Micarta inlays. They are durable, add extra grip without being overly bulky, and they look nice aswell:thumbup:

I have plain and micarta large Sebenzas, single and double lug. For my users, I do prefer micarta inlays just for the added contours on the handle. They make me feel like my grip is a bit more secure, whether that's true or not. I also have my single lug users converted to double lugs by CRK. I often open my knives with both hands (not either hand, but two-handed). The double lugs make that much easier.

It is possible, however, to open a RH Sebenza with double lugs using your left hand. Not easy, but possible. That's another reason I convert my users. If I'm out doing something where there's the possibility of injury or incapacitation, I change my carry so that I can reach my knives with either hand. Just seems sensible in a case like that to be able to open and use them with either hand if need be.

In my experience, CRKs black canvas micarta is not bad about getting dirty. I've taken my Sebs camping & hiking, and used them at work in a warehouse. They've held up well and don't look much different from when they were new.

Thanks man, I think when I do get one which should be about two months if nothing comes up expense wise it will be a Plain 21 double lug. I will probably get Micarta when I get a small a little later down the line. Thanks for the help again, you have helped me a lot deciding and learning about sebenzas.

Whatever you get, post a bunch of pics when it rolls in. A large plain jane double lugs will be sweet!

Glad to help:thumbup:
