in general, what lock type (axis, liner lock, lockback, etc.) is:

1. least likely to allow the knife to close on your hand? im asking more about lock strength than which design is most likely to accidentally be unlocked during use.

2. the most resistant to wear? or is this even a factor?

3. your favorite? and why?

This subject has been discussed at length many, many times here
on the forums so there is much information available for a search.;)

Basicly , there are two surfaces at the rear of a blade to lock against.
That said there are several ways to lock the blade among them are the
ones already mentioned. But for this reply I'll lump them in to general
types........rear of blade lock ( liner /frame lock) and top or blade.
(axis, notch lock and lockback) . Both have their strengths but in my
opinion those that lock on the top of the blade being the most reliable
if well made. In the liner / frame lock arena I'd pick the frame lock due
to placing the most mass at the rear of the blade assuming quality of
manufacture.

As to minuses of the two types the top locks are to a degree a bit more
sensitive to dirt and pocket lint etc. fouling the works. Where a liner/ frame
lock is very sensitive to machining tolerances to engage properly.

So weight your needs and take your pick. Just don't assume that a locked
folding knife it the same a fixed blade for strength.
