So I just got a new stainless police model fully plain edge and I have a question. The knife is for so perfectly in the handle when I open it with one hand the blade actually rubs the side of the handle a little. Is that okay? There is no blade play or anything it just rubs. This is my first spyderco as well as my first stainless knife.

Also I got a dragonfly tattoo and it's very stiff to open one handed. Will it break in after using it for a little and become smoother?

Thanks for the help I'm very new to all this and spyderco.

Not sure about the rub on the police model as I've never owned one but I don't think that is normal.

"Rub" is a subjective term. In general knives def break in and become much smoother with use. And by use, I mean cutting things up. Not just opening and closing a lot.

Didn't sound to me like it was just stiff. Sounds like it is actually a rub.

The police looks centered locks up good but when I open it I can hear the blade touch the handle from the pressure pushing on it but if I don't touch it it looks centered and it locks up good. Idk if its anything to be worried about or not but it's going to be used a lot so I doubt it'll stay perfect anyway.

Anyways if there was a problem later down the road if I sent it to the company wouldn't they repair it for me?

Yes, I think if you sent it in they'd probably fix/replace it for you.

Anything with moving parts with break in, and eventually break down. Friction and wear are unavoidable, unless we have a fixed blade. The SS Police model is pinned so sometimes the blade will rub a bit, but as long as the knife cuts and locks up securely it should not be an issue for alarm.

Alright thanks. Very solid feeling knife. Huge but actually feels really nice in my pocket. It locks up good it doesn't have any movement from what I can tell. I'll give it a month or so to break in before I feel like it has an issue. The dragonfly was stiffer yet but I feel like that's because of its size. My wife is going to use the dragonfly so I'll check with her after a while.

If you're talking about the visible portion of the blade tang (the area between where the edge ends and where the handle begins), then rubbing during opening and closing is perfectly normal. If you're talking about the sides of the "working" portion of the blade, then it's abnormal.

I'm not sure where it was. It doesn't sound to be doing it as much tonight after using it for a day so maybe it was some grit in there displacing things or something?
