I am not familiar with NYLATRON washers. Do other manufacturers use them on their knives and are these nylatron washers on all of Emersons knives since the beginning?

Is it true I hear they don't need to be lubed?

Does anyone know what these are actually made of .. Some type of metal? Does polishing with flitz hurt them?

Since I've started reading here, the lube or not to lube your Emerson debate comes up fairly regular. EKI told me no lube is needed on the washers, just keep them clean, and perhaps a tiny bit in the detent. Others here lube all the time with various favorite oils.

I myself rarely lube my Emersons and they seem fine. If I do decide to lube, I use just a drop and a bit in the detents. Frog lube seems highly recommended here.

I did notice on my Traveler that after I lubed it, some got on the lock face then I had lock rock. Went away after I got off the excess lube. I'm having the same issue currently with an Endeavor. You'd think I'd learn to leave well enough alone but I like messing with the knives. Can't seem to stop the lock rock though.

I don't understand the question since Nylatron is Nylon impregnated with MoS2 !!! MoS2 is a common lube . You want lube over lube ?? I quess you like eggs benedict == egg with egg sauce !

Nylatron is graphite-impregnated nylon, and doesn't need lubing. I've taken apart my Emersons after a short break-in and have left them dry after wiping off any factory grease from the pivot. I've also used nylatron bushings on other knives, both production and custom, and have had no problems.

WOW cool stuff this nylotron!

So it is not a metal.. because it seem like they are a dark metal when I took mine out.
