how do i find Tom Krein services? does he have a website?
Wait found it
Does a regrind make a knife lose value?

If i was to regrind my Manix 2 black G10 with a flat grind would it gain value?

Grinding over a logo on say for example Spyderco Persian Ed Schempp logo, would it lose value?

Also can i see some pics if anyone has em
Thanks

I'm not sure about resell value but mine went up in personal value. :)

I personally thinks the value goes up. Krein does a fantastic job at a very reasonable cost.

i think with a krein regrind the value would likely go up. but he has a very good repuation for doing excellent work. if you did it with someone else, if they arent known for quality, they could mess up the ht, not grind it evenly, or any other number problems that i cant think of to mess it up. so it could hurt the value

Tom's work is excellent. He is the only regrinder I have experience with at this time.

As far as value (intrinsic vs monetary): It depends who is asigning the value. For some the typical rough finish and loss of warranty would drop value (monetary and intrinsic). For others the increase in cutting and sharpening efficiency would increase the value (intrinsic and monetary).

I think the value stays about the same (monetary is balanced out by intrinsic): increased monetary investment for increased cutting and sharpening efficiency provides an intrinsicly higer value of the reground knife.

Now as far as sellable value, it will depend on the buyer. Since it increases the expense of owning the knife, I would wait or search for a buyer who understands that so that I can recoup my investment.

I have several knives with the "Krein Regrind"

You should be aware the regrind can and will in some cases void your warranty. I have a small Sebenza that has been dramatically thinned out. Should I damage the blade...it is on me and I would not expect CRK to repair or replace anything under warranty.

If you're willing to accept all the pros and cons of modifying your knife....have fun with it. I know I do.

A small Sebenza with a ZDP-189 Leek (no regrind on this Leek).
