No worries; we don't have a problem giving new folks a break.

Welcome to BF.

I posted a question in the Himalayan Imports forum and was referred to Spark or Bastid by Yvsa, so this looks like the right place. I am a gold member who is opening an eBay store to sell imported blades. If it violates no BF rules, I would like to include a small logo (about the size of an avatar) and, if allowed, a link to my ebay store in my signature. I need to know whether this is against the rules or not and, if so, would the logo without a link be permisable? Alternately, would the logo be permissable as an avatar? Would appreciate your input. I value my BF membership and would not want to threaten it in any way. Thanks in advance.:)

P.S. There would be NO selling on BF.

I would tend to believe that if we don't allow links to eBay by any member of BFC except for discussion purposes that it would not be allowed in ones signature for the main purpose of directing members to your eBay store. Of course, this is my opinion on the matter. Spark or a Super will be better able to clarify.

Yes, as a Gold Member you can put a small link to your website in your sig. No enormous banners, please.

By the way, if you upgrade to a Platinum Membership next time you can give yourself a custom user title, "Acme Knives" or whatever.

I think other mods, as well as myself, are under the impression that deal spotting in any form is not allowed. TGB&U is used to tell about your experiences (Good or Bad) with dealers, sellers, and individuals you've bought, sold, and traded with, not for spotting a deal and letting everyone know about it. This practice of deal spotting hurts the guys who pay to advertise here. It's not fair to them that some small obscure knife shop that no one has ever heard of is getting hits to it's site when they haven't paid for a dealer membership here. Telling people about a good or bad experience with a dealer or individual is one thing but spotting deals is another animal all together IMHO.

Let me use Moon0507 as an example....He posted about a knife he purchased for a great price from Amazon and felt it was a great deal. Fine. But he never expresses how smoothly the transaction went down, what type of service he received (good or bad) and just throws it out there that basically, you can get a certain knife for $XX dollars at Amazon. How does that help anyone other than Amazon?

Agreed about deal spotting vs deal rating.

Is spotting explicitly forbidden?

Empty minds want to know...;)

Okay, I'll send you the PM, too.... This thread is not the place to rehash policy. The policy is it gets moved to TGB&U. I think I'll split this thread in a while ...
