I have a Small Sebanza that I'd like to get a clip insert for. My questions are:

1. Why is the insert more than twice the price of the clip itself?
2. Has anyone been able to get a reduced shipping charge. $9 is a lot
for something the size of the insert.
3. Is the insert available anywhere other than directly from CRK?

Thanks,
Mike

Newbie thoughts :

You do not really need an insert unless you want it for cosmetic. Unless there are someother reasons for having the insert. FYI, I did buy them for cosmetic reasons on my 2 small seb.

With the clip removed, the knife is easier to close (at least for me) since the clip acts against the pressing of the frame lock in a closing action.

But it does have a hole and you can see through it to see the blade in closed position.

If you choose not to have the insert, then DO NOT screw back the original clip screw back after you remove the clip.

The clip screw took into account the thickness of the clip. Without the clip, it will go deeper into the frame and will scratch the blade when the clip screw is fully engaged.

Ask CRK, they might ship it in an envelope and cut down on the cost.

Have not seen the clip pffered anywhere else.

I would guess that the insert part volumes are miniscule compared to the volume of clips. This being the case, the inserts may follow a completely different manufacturing model that would make them more expensive . . .

Good luck with your solution.

You should give them a call or send them a mail, i ordered one and payed less than 9$ for freight charges in date of november 2005.
Hope this help.

I think they only ship UPS so that's probably the minimum price to get a UPS pachake out.

I just recently purchased an insert, pouch and their special lube. $60.00 bucks or so with the $9.00 shipping charge is a lot of money for these little items. They shipped via usps and the shipping cost them a little more than a dollar. So, just like the knives, everything at crk is expensive. However, I gave my sebbie an overhaul and now like the clipless version quite much. Oh well.

It's not true, i did that myself (i never use the clip). although the screw goes a little deeper into the frame, it's far from being able to scratch the blade.

i screw back the screw to protect it, as the nude hole is inhestetic and could be damaged.

Another thought...If you do indeed want to spend the amount needed for the insert, ask the factory to engrave your initials in it. I did, pretty cool. They then re-beadblast the insert so the initials are subdued.

If anything, it will be original. ;)

I ordered a clip insert for my large and small sebbies this week and just received them today. Wow, $46 for two pieces of metal that may weigh a few grams. I guess that's what I pay for vanity;). The shipping to my destination was $10 via priority mail. BTW, to make it worthwhile the shipping, I also included a T-shirt in my order.

I just covered up the whole back side of the knife with a nice piece of wood, just like I did to the front side. Result--custom Sebenza at a fraction of their price.

They said an insert and pouch could be sent by regular surface mail for $2 or so. Nice, flexible people there at CRK.

That's definately a job well done,Greg!!!
How did you secure the onlays? Some kind of glue or epoxy?

Nice Sebbie!!!
