Personally, I like the blade shape. But I’m also curious. How good is it at ‘big knife things?’ Let’s say: clearing vegetation, clearing tall weeds, chopping small branches and trees (3 inches diameter max), skinning deer and elk.

I’m curious how the AUS-8a steel will hold up to the listed tasks. Will it roll or chip?

Your experience or even just two cents would be greatly appreciated.

The Marauder is more designed for fighting, considering its based on a WWII fighting knife. That said it would probably do well clearing small vegetation and weeds. Chopping will probably be done ok but it lacks the weight of other Cold Steel offerings that were designed with more outdoor use in mind. Skinning would probably be difficult considering the blade is 9" long. Most dedicated skinning/hunting knives are generally smaller (maybe 4" blades or less) because it is easier to manipulate a small knife versus something so large. As far as the steel, I really like Cold Steel's AUS8. Its reasonably tough and even if the edge gets damaged it will be fairly easy to repair.
