1. Is the Police SARK the same as the PSARK?

2. The regular SARK is a chisel grind. Is the Police SARK a chisel grind? The Emerson website calls it a "double V" grind. What's the difference?

3. Is the Police SARK sharpened on only one side like the chisel SARK?

4. Can the optional black teflon coating be easily removed later?

5. Is the optional "silver satin" blade a coating or a naked steel blade with a satin rub?

6. Can the Police SARK be flicked out (inertia opened) easily like the Commander?

7. How long has the Police SARK been sold, and have there been updated versions of it?

8. Anyone have a photo of the backside of the Police SARK?

9. Personal opinions about the Police SARK?

:) THANKS!!!!!!!

Hi,
I'll try and answer some of your questions.

1. yes

5. the "satin" finish is actullay hard chrome plated, and is not bare steel.
6. yes about as easy as a Commander with practice.

8. not right now

Thanks,
-Scott

The P-SARK is a truly awesome kinfe. I carry one everyday at work and use it often. I have used it to cut away clothes as well as seatbelts and other assorted stuff on the job. And the wave is by far the fastest opening system I have ever used. I have had both P-SARK and the SARK. Both are outstanding, however I like the point and that saves me from carrying two knives everyday. Get one, you won't regret it...:D :D :D

Xacto, it's a great knife. The hawkbill has many uses. and I think the "double v-grind" is just a mis-print.
-Scott :D ;)

I toss in a couple answers, but you've gotten great info so far. :D

7. There has not been an update to the design. It's already to speed, being one of the first knives to start life as a "Third Generation" design. It has the thick stop pin and the cool traction grooves already.

9. The PSARK is actually my second favorite of the Emerson production pieces. Soon to drop to number three when the CQC8 is released, but a great knife none the less. :D I regularly carry one as my user/utility on my support side.

Highly recommended

EKI and , well, me anyway have 2 different interpretations of 'V' grind - i have several EKI's (ie spec war SP/commander/CQC7 SP) which, in the EKI catalog and website show to be 'V' grind, and they are not imho V- grind but chisel grind, not a biggie, either one will get sharp, but i dont know why they call it a 'V' grind, when i think 'v' grind i think BM AFCK/BM 910/etc, myself.

hey, i love emersons as much as anyone, but they are funky about that lol

I'll chime in here too.

I think the PSARK/SARK series of knives is by far the least glorified of the EKI collection. This is too bad because they are excellent blades for both utility and SD. I carry a 2000 Commander and a PSARK on duty without fail. Off the job, I carry a 98 Commander and my PSARK.

I like them so much that I have 3 PSARK's including the original Siegle & Pirela ground SARK/PSARK conversion (care of Ed Moses, Suspect extraordinaire). I was able to take ownership of this historical (IMO) piece in a Suspect 'auction'. I believe this conversion preceeds even the protos developed by EKI.

In regards to 'satinizing', I have removed the HC finish off my PSARK and given it a custom satin finish. The project was not too difficult.

Finally, this may not be an update but it looks like there are exciting things to come. (Pic care of John Hollister):

Fixed Blade SARK

Just got a P-Sark this weekend. So far I think it's a keeper. it took a day or two to figure out the sharpening of it, but since then it seems to be doing awright. One thing that did surprise me though is that as I recall all Emersons have a hollow ground blade with a chisel grind edge, and I could SWEAR I looked at a SARK at the knife shop that was hollow ground on both sides. 'Lo an' behold when my 2001 P-SARK came in the mail it was only hollow ground on one side of the blade, and flat on the other. I guess I can live with it an' all but it did kinda alter my plans for it.

I have a friend that can take the plain edged Emersons with the hollow ground blade and but a standard beveled V type edge on it, thusly making it suit my tastes more. As mine sits currently, I'm stuck with the chisel grind.

I do look forward to using my P-SARK for utility and while on EMS duty, it seems like a great compromise between a hawkbill, wharncliffe, and safety blade. granted yeah, you could stick a patient with it during an extrication, but it would take an inordinate amount of stupidity.

So..anyhoo, any info or perceptions regarding this knife would be vastly appreciated by me as well.

thanks!
