I just received a production Hiking Buddy. I went with the production version since its a high quality stainless. My question is that are the scales sealed on? It's going to be around water and blood, so I want to know if I should remove them to clean and oil under.

Also, are a production recluse or patch knife in the works?

Thanks

I believe the production models are secured with screws!

Sent from the pay phone beside 7/11!

I took mine apart and put a layer of beeswax underneath the scales. There is nothing under there as it comes (iirc) except maybe some oil.

I have inquired about a production Recluse as well. I was told that there are no plans for one in the foreseeable future. I think production in 1/8 would be a great option for hunters, but still be a great all around user.

Though I might be a little biased because my perfect Fiddleback would be a stainless Recluse 1/8 with black bolstered natural burlap, or brown canvas... some neutral canvas or burlap at least.

Thanks, both my questions were answered.

I agree totally on the Recluse. It is my favorite Fiddleback, but I am not a carbon steel guy no matter how much I want to be.

I honestly don't have much experience with A2 Brian. I hear it's close to O1 though. D2 is the only non stainless I like so far.

You gotta try A2 Terry! As far as moisture and deer blood goes, it holds up amazingly well. I think you should give it a go. If I had an A2 recluse or patch, I'd love to let you give it a try. But, I only have a O1 patch that I love so much I passed on the recluse I had.

:)

I am a huge fan of the production Fiddlebacks. I own two, and have handled all of them. IMHO, Andy knocked the ball out of the park with the design and steel choice. That being said, I cannot believe that the Recluse did not make the cut for production treatment. I would LOVE to see a stainless production Recluse, and bet it would be a great seller...

 please, oh please!

Assuming they did them in 1/8 I would purchase one immediately and then beg them to make a custom shop with the handle I want!

The scales are not sealed on, but are fit tightly. I'm not sure the removal would be necessary.
