ive wanted a real battle worth sword my whole life and im getting very close to finally getting one. but i would like to have some input and opinions as i am a bit clueless. i would like to keep it under 300$ and the swords i am interested in are..

ronin katana long sword

as you can see i am more interested in bastard or hand and a halfs. and right now i am leaning towards the great sword of war but if anyone has any advice or recomendations for other swords please share. now on to my concerns.

with the great sword of war i am worried about the blade being too whipy since its a big sword. i under stand that with long blades a certain whip is to be expected. but i was wondering about if its to much so? also how is the sheath?

and with the cold steel hand and a half i am concerned about the pumel being broken off as ive heard some of them have the tendacy to do that. but maybe if i got a newer model it would be ok?

i dont plan of ever cutting anything other than pool noodles or rice mats, i dont want to abuse a sword. but i would like to know that the sword i chose would be worth buying and if it would hold up well

thanks in advance :D

Nice to have Cold Steel chime in. I've got a couple of cold steel swords. They are good for the $. Most can be used as cutters. Just watch their vids. Many laugh at the vids, but a picture IS worth a thousand words.

One thing to take into consideration, cold steel swords are sturdy. They are heavier than the swords that they were made to emulate. Being heavier means that they don't handle the same. I've got a very nice and solid cavalry sword from CS. I wouldn't hesitate to use it the way a real cavalry sword was meant to be used (don't want to fight anyone .... I mean I wouldn't worry about breaking it while doing what the original was meant to do).

So .... I'd be confident to use it but..... It's harder to recover from a "swing" than the original... And heavy enough that I would not want to spend many hours fencing with it.

Everything in life is a compromise...... BTW, that hand & a half sword tempted me until I read the same reviews you did.... Reassuring to see CS stand behind their product.
Cheers.

....ohhh .... I'm not a CS fanboy.... My favorite swords/ knives aren't from them. I feel that I can be impartial. I've got a few of their knives and enjoy them.

Sturdy is right. Often even overbuilt, but CS certainly makes a rugged product. I, like others, don't really like their swords, but have a number of CS blades that I do like.
