Where are HI khuks made? Are they easy to baton with that curvy shape, easy to sharpen?

And can some of you guys post pics of you holding 12, 15 and 18 inch khuks(overall)? Or at least a size comaprison, because the 12 looked smaller then I thought it would be.

And, what do you guys think about the British Army Service khuk? It's looks like all I'd need for a survival knife.

Thanks.

COMRADE,

look to the top of the page and click on the Himilayan Imports link and read till your hearts content. that would be the best place to start.

Thanks for that, I've been spoiled by bladeforums. Really cool, love the pics, it's like they are all custom knives.

Do any of you have pics of you holding a khuk?

Nepal

Are they easy to baton with that curvy shape,
Yes

easy to sharpen?
Yes.

Here's me holding a 20" CAK (not a real good size comparison):

Just keep in mind that kukris are measure from the point of the pommel tot he tip, overall length. A 12" will only have 7-8" of blade. If you know the blade length you want, just add about 5" to that and that's the size kukri to order.

After you've been working with khukuris very long, even the 15" BAS seems like a small one. The only pic I have holding one is a 22" Dui Chirra. I'm a short guy at 5'-5", so it's more like a sword. :D

Ferguson -- I remember when I first got my 20" CAK, thinking it was a monster, everything I wanted it to be. Working with it, finding the right edge geometry for what I want to use it for, etc. Now it just seems. . .right. Anything smaller seems like "I should just carry a knife."

I don't know if it's getting used to it, or the fact that I have so many that are bigger (22" Dui Chirra, 24.25" Chit Bowie, Bhairab, 25" CAk and now a falcata on the way), that it's now the "small, light" one!

:D

Steve, what you lack in stature, you more than make up for with heart:D A giant of a man in the good will department:thumbup:

At any rate, the BAS is a fine first khuk. It will do pretty much everything that you want of a heavy camp knife, it will pack easily on the belt or pack, and it will chop circles around most other blades of comparable size and mass.

My very first khuk was a villager model that was sort of a cross between an AK and a BAS. Sort of an AK without the fullers but lacked the Sword of Shiva scrollwork of the BAS with a little different balance. 50 or so products later, it still rides in my truck as one of my most cherished knives.

he he, Aunty Yangdu said she is going to get me an M43 (17")as my first Khukri! Waiting for the new stock now... I hope one with a wooden handle comes in.
When my Dad sees it, he will want one too, and knowing him, he will want a bigger one.
Then when my Uncle Andrew sees that one, he'll want an even bigger one! Only thing is he will have to sneak it past his wife, she has already banned any further additions to his blade collection
