Just a couple questions for the may contest:

1. Rules say, "must use a BKT knife". Does that mean a knife only ? Or are other tools such as a bow saw and/or ax allowed ?

2. Deadline ? When do they have to be submitted by.

Thanks

Good questions, I'm heading out saturday to complete this so good idea to get some answers on this.

Yeah, the debris hut with just a knife is no problem (don't even need a knife really)

But the advanced one ... that's another story. Especially the 4500 sq ft., 2 story, hip roof, beach front, contemporary I'm building :D

Sorry for butting in guys, but as you see I am not even close to being concidered for beckerheadom yet so I'm just trying to get a few more posts out there when I can ;) these contests are what caught my eye they look like a blast! anyhow sorry for interupting....carry on.

I would like to see knife only for the shelters. The idea is to use your knife to its full advantage. I am a bit curious though, is there something that can't be done with a knife on the shelters? When I set this up, I went for the 3 shelters I build at least once maybe twice a year, with a knife, so, I'm a little lost.

These must be done and posted by June 1, 2011.

What I was planning/building COULD be built with only a knife, but ... I'd prob. be done by about Christmas (LOL)

No worries ... I'm going to use it afterward anyway.

Wow, well, then go ahead and use what you want, but be sure and post some pics of all the tools you used, that way E can see them.

People like me who only own a BK14 might or might not run into a few little problems.

Cool. Thanks man.

Just the Bow saw, 9 and Eskabar.

Tons of pics already. "Industrial Secrets" though don't ya know (LOL)

Shouldn't. Shelters were one of the first things I done with my ESKabar. Honestly, other than chopping, there's not much I haven't found my BK14 can't do. Just takes time. You can cut a 2" sapling down in about 45 secs total, with a BK14. Anything bigger than that for shelter, and you are just showing off. :D

German construction, remember? :D

But yes, you're right. Cutting 2" green wood would be two or three swings with a well-sharpened axe, but with a baton you can chew your way through almost anything with a BK14. And I'll probably wait a few months before I use my Fiskars again.

Good call. Give it a chance to forget what you blood and bone tastes like. :D

Seriously, a knife should always have a baton next to it, or at leat that's my take on it. Big knives can chop, but little, tough as hell knives can take a beatin'. Just sayin'.
