Questions From a Sebenza Carrying Wanabe

Currently I have a Microtech Socom Elite. This is the first time I've ever spent so much money on a knife, but know I'm hooked on quality knives. My biggest complaint is the .178" thick blade tends to bind while cutting. My questions are:
1) What are the differences between older, newer, and classic Large Sebenza's? What do I look for in used knife ad's?

2) How does the Large Sebenza compare to a Socom Elite (w/serrations)?

Good research questions.

The older Seb have a slightly different blade metal. There are large and small versions. The Classic2000 is handle variation, a bit less wieght, single indentation for the finger. If you have large hands the Regular Large fits better imo. The blades are sharper than the MT edges and hold an edge longer. The design is not in the Tactical Folder category like MT. The handles, blades, bushing, and design are simple and tough. Once you get one you will be convinced. I like both CRK and MT but carry a Seb.

Compare in MT SE - blade is not as long, drop at point is rounder, and Seb is not as thick with a more pronounced grind at the taper. The handle of the Seb is not as wide or thick, there are no inserts in the handle of the Seb for grip. You will not want to flick the Seb like the MT the blade wieght is less and the Seb feels just fine using the thumb stud. The clip on the Seb carrys a bit higher.

When you are looking for a used one. Get a photo and ask a lot of questions. I had a bad experience in one deal, but was able to sort it out. Chris Reeve will refurg a knife, but its sometimes the same price just to buy new depending what needs to be done. The e-bay prices are near retail, the BB are the place to watch. Most of the sellers are in the Seb group so the conditions are usually good. Best advice, watch the boards, act fast they move, and you can find deals $50 to $75 off retail for NIB condition.
