Just came across an 80t at an old hardware store. The sheepsfoot has a serrated blade on it. Has anyone ever seen one of those? He also had about 5 other 80t's some in blue and white boxes and the others in the brown white and tan box. The blue and white box 80t's were priced about 5 bucks more than the brown and white. Does anyone know why that would be? Thanks very much

The brown boxes are older stock, so they have an older price.

Sorry, I don't know about the serrations.

Check the model number on the box and/or the stamping on the blade tang. If it has a serrated sheepsfoot, it should be a 89OT Blazer model, which is just a varient of the regular 8OT. The only difference between the two is the serrations on the sheepsfoot. If it is available for a good price, you should grab a couple while you can, its a nice knife and somewhat rarer than the standard 8OT.

ted I sent you an email on the price of the knife as you requested. I picked up two 80t's and the 890T with the serrated sheepsfoot. Thanks OT, Pretty cool knife. and Thanks for the info guys.

Good find! Yes the 8OT (1959-2004) is a bit more common than the later (1989-1999) 89OT. Last MSRP for the 89OT was $33.95 in 1999.

Codger -- I just paid 29.95 for the 890t and 24.98 for two 80t's both in the original brown box with the gold marketing, how old are you and what did you have for lunch and what do you like best drapery or motorcycles etc.. Sending one of them to Ted Gamble so he will enjoy also. Thanks for your post on the price

Guess I have an odd ball one. I have a 8OT but the main blade is tang stamped 89OT. It does not have the serrated blade. Error knife?

I am guessing that it is a "last of days" knife, where the order came from on high to assemble everything inhouse. Get them finished! The other possibility is that it is one made 1989-99 where the wrong blade got put in the 8OT barrel and it is an error. You will see some of the former knives with OT blades on UH scales. It is really just anybody's guess. I think the odballs are interesting though. Only time (25 years or so) will tell if they become a collecting niche with their own values like error coins or stamps.

Codger (older than dirt, beef, motorcycles break my bones, prefer guns and knives) :D

P.S.- In Schradebonics, the blade is scalloped , not serrated.

Codger make sure you fill out the marketing papers you got with the knife and send them back in with all the information. There are 148 marketing questions and they need the information within 10 days! however I dont see the beef and older than dirt boxes. you may have to write those in. LOL.

OH NO! Frame that marketing survey, warranty paper, the plastic baggie, and the knife box! Those are what will become rare! The boxes flatten nicely, and the whole shebang fits behind plexi on a wall plaque. Put two brown rubber coated cup hooks (rebent with padded pliars to match the knife shape) below the plexi to hold the knife when you are not EDCing it. With a bit of creativity, you can add a slip of paper with the pattern info on it for interest, a small glossy photo of the knife, and one of those label tapes behind the cup hooks saying "Gone To Work", "Gone Fishing" or some other catchy phrase!

We must honor our Schrades, as they honor a century's craftsmen who made them

or something like that! :)

Point of sale displays, product preservation, and a catchy ditty with a hook!!

He's a doggone marketing genius.....and he's ours, all ours. :D

I saw one of those serrated sheepfoot 89OT at Sears here in Mexico years ago, I never cared for serrated blades so I let it pass. If you like the idea but want to save an 89OT, it shouldn't' be hard to take a half round jewelers file and make some serrations on an 8OT.

Dang, no Schrades to be seen anywhere in Mexico, Sears now only has some Chinese "Winchester" cheapos.

The Sears stores here in Tennessee still have a few of the Craftsman clampack knives. But none of them have a big variety anymore. Craftsman Knife turns them up on ebay every time, but you have to know what you are looking for when you find them. Some sellers claim other brands contract knives to be Schrades. I'll be glad when we get a model number conversion chart.

Okay, I took a pic (sorry for the blurry on the pic, I was watching the Pats game and I was in a hurry) of a reject I have. It is missing the shield, and has MM89 on the tang stamp, which is xx out. Probably a second. Anyway, it has the "scalloped" blade on the sheepsfoot....

Glenn, if I know my Schrade contract knife tangstamps, that is a Master Mechanic issue. A lot of collectors shun the contract knives and rejects, but I think they add a lot of interest and history to a collecton. I wish someone could tell us when they started and stopped the "XX" cancelling of the tangstamp to indicate a reject. Thanks for the picture!
