Hi guys, recently I came across the Steel Heart family and wasn't quiet clear on certain details. Can any1 please help me? Below are those details that I have collected. (Limited Edition or Special Edition is irrelevant to my questions).

First - SH is initial model of the family which were made around 2001? This model line has a blade length of 7.5'', OAL 13.5'', & thickness 0.25''? (the end of handle bar is rounded?)

Second - FSH is the next generation of SH? made around 2004? Blade length 8OAL 14'', & thickness 0.25"? The word Fusion only changed the cosmetic of the blade. For example the new designed for the end of handle bar? MSRP is $327 but whats the average price today secondary market(L or H)?

Third - HHFSH(Heavy Steel Heart) exactly like FSH but thicker. Usually 0.27''? Are there any varations? such as 0.25'' or 0.30''? Or maybe even 0.3125''? If its 0.3125 will this still be considered HHFSH or HOGFSH? If a FSH has a thickness of 0.27'' is this going to be considered a HHFSH? HHFSH's MSRP is $327. Whats the average price today in the secondary market (L or H)?

Fourth - HOGFSH(Heavy Ordnance Fusion Steel Heart) again exactly like the FSH & HHFSH but much more thicker, usually 0.3125(5/16)? Whats the differences between FSH & HHFSH? HOGFSH's MSRP is $427. Again, whats the average price today in the secondary market(L or H)?

*What is the width of blade on FSH/HHFSH/HOGFSH? or are they all the same?

Lastly, I know that the FSH family is the flag ship of Busse blades. But when compare to Sarsquatch & NMSFNO which one is more versatile? I was told that FSH will come on top regardless of what the task might be, is this true? Please let me know your opinions. Thank you all very much for replying. Have a great sunday!!!

Hey my friend, this might help you in your quest for knowledge: click HERE.

This is a good site in reference to blade specs and original prices. I think you have a good grasp on the FSH, but I would like to listen to what the older hogs have to say. Hands down, my favorite Busse is the FSH or more specifically the HOGFSH. VERY VERSATILE! I will be posting a review on the HOGFSH as soon as I can find the time. I hope that link helps you!

looking at the retail price back in the day is fine, but don't expect prices to be even close to the oringinal retail. for any fsh on the secondary market, expect to pay $500-$600.

the hhfsh has a sabre grind at .27"

your best bet is a blade show or a ganzaaa. even here, the retail prices have gone up.

try reading the sticky threads at the top of this forum. there are links to very informative sites. also google "busse collector", "hogcult", and "bad mojo".

Hi guys, recently I came across the Steel Heart family and wasn't quiet clear on certain details. Can any1 please help me? Below are those details that I have collected. (Limited Edition or Special Edition is irrelevant to my questions).

These are now referred to as Straight Handled Steel Hearts, SHSH. Thickness was variable, and most (?) were made in A2.

Fusion does refer to the handle style, used on this generation of SH and Battle Mistress. Made from INFI. Thickness was 0.25", with a full height flat grind (actually they have a slight convex). They could be ordered coated or DC BB, with a variety of scale options. Current market $450 - $550?

Third - HHFSH(Heavy Steel Heart) exactly like FSH but thicker. Usually 0.27''? Are there any variations? such as 0.25'' or 0.30''? Or maybe even 0.3125''? If its 0.3125 will this still be considered HHFSH or HOGFSH? If a FSH has a thickness of 0.27'' is this going to be considered a HHFSH? HHFSH's MSRP is $327. Whats the average price today in the secondary market (L or H)?

HHFSH refers specifically to the small run sold on the Busse Company Store site. 200 in standard handle, 200 in magnum, all were 0.27", sabre grind, black coated, black micarta scales. Recently there have been FSH showing up at shows, and they have been 0.27" or thicker, flat ground. Some newbies call these HHFSH. That is not correct. Current market $550 - $600

Fourth - HOGFSH(Heavy Ordnance Group Fusion Steel Heart) again exactly like the FSH & HHFSH but much more thicker, usually 0.3125(5/16)? Whats the differences between FSH & HHFSH? HOGFSH's MSRP is $427. Again, whats the average price today in the secondary market(L or H)?

HOGFSH were offered back then with the FSH. I think the HOGFSH were sold as LEs in satin with tiger or snakeskin. Expensive now. They have been fatties sold since at shows and 'Ganzaa, satin or coated, with a variety of scales. Prices are variable

*What is the width of blade on FSH/HHFSH/HOGFSH? or are they all the same?

1 15/16", slightly broader than the NMSFNO.

Opinions will vary, of course. SARSquatch and NMSFNO are both lighter to carry than any FSH, that may be important to some. A lot will depend on which handle profile works best for you. Any FSH is likely to be a better chopper than the other two, so if your criteria don't include much chopping the others may be more versatile, and are certainly cheaper.

Your "first" category includes a few recognized variations of the Steel Heart, including variable blade length.

Between first and second was the Ergo series. Steel Heart E, also BM an NO

The fusion series ushered in a major size increase. The SFNO is roughly as large as the original Steel Hearts. Both the FSH and FBM got longer, broader, and heavier.

In my mind, the FSH is not the most versatile blade. It's big, and will perform chopping and heavy cutting tasks better than the others. I think fine tasks become difficult with a blade this size - you can still do them, but not as easily as with a 3-4" blade. Of course fine tasks are going to be easier depending on how in shape you are, and how well balanced the knife is. Balance can vary depending on thickness and handles of the various Steel Hearts listed. NMSFNO has similar blade length but less mass, so I don't think you gain a whole lot of control. ASH (anniversary steel heart) is another flavor currently circulating, similar to your first generation models. Significantly shorter and lighter than the others you listed, but I think it makes a great case as an all-rounder.

Does anyone know the thickness of the FSH's sold at BLADE West? I've got one on the way and am curious how thick it's gonna be.

Thank you guys for replying, all are awsome advices :D I got my FSH-tanker gray blade, black micrata handle, 0.27'' thick with no shealth for $500  Any opinions?
