My roomate and I are about two days away from having our full scale lapidary cutting shop fully operational. My roomate has possibly the only diamond band saw in the state as well, which gives us some nifty capabilities...

This is a stylized "e" that was cut out of am agate slab that is about 3/16" thick. It is 1-3/8" tall.

Anyhow, to cut to the point, we can cut slabs of rock for knife handles. We can also profile them to the shape of your tangs as well, or at least rough them out to a rough sillouette fo the tang to make life a little easier. We can work with your material, or we can obtain just about any rock or mineral under the sun (Jade, Charoite, malachite, agate, fossilized wood, etc..). We also have sources for fossil Amber (Baltic, Columbian, or Madagascar) at reasonable prices, just not the equipment to work it yet.

I also have a sources for Opal, walrus parts, mammoth ivory, and other interesting materials.

My question is whether or not you guys are interested in this sort of thing, or should I just cut out little trinkets and sell them to tourists?

Excellent, you posted it!

As you know, when I get around to doing what I want to with a couple of knives, I'll be interested. But, obviously, don't base your business decisions on me.

ps - I don't remember you mentioning malachite, or some of those others. Although I'm sure you did. Hmmm... malachite on a black coated REKAT Utility....?

Have you posted this on rec.knives too?
It would be another option for you to be able to sell your product.
That looks really nice.Maybe when you get to going good some knife mag might be interested in doing an article.
Good luck!!!
