I was unsure where to put this but here goes. It's a two parter, with the latter related to tinkering.
I have a newly acquired Fred Perrin Le Bowie/Neck Bowie. I found out it is an older production of three versions, it has no pinholes. I was wondering a couple things: first, are there any other differences between the models, such as the blade? I am looking at buying a custom kydex sheath for it but the sheath was created using a newer model.
Another question I had (related to tinkering) is whether or not I would compromise the handle if I were to round out the finger choil some more, it would thin the metal right where you grip it which looks to be fairly thin already. But it's a small knife, I don't intend to use it for hard work, and it's very uncomfortable with the current choil size. I also would like to know if I should do the choil mod before or after I get custom scales - some makers have pre-made scales that can attach to the default handle shape, or I could have the mod done and then send it out to get fully custom scales.
