I haven't had a new knife in a while, and today I recieved my first HI. I think it is a WW2 model?

I was curious if anyone knew what or who the markings represent?

Thanks for the help!

First picture the marks are for Uncle Bill (the founder of HI) and Bir Gorkha. The marks on the other side indicate that the blade was made by Lachhu, with the sun mark being his unique mark. Your blade is indeed a WWII model. Lachhu makes an excellent WWII model. My first kukri was an 18" Lachhu WWII. I've changed my opinions on which of my kukris is my favorite many times, but it's back to being my Lachhu WWII.

The other marks in the second picture are, if memory serves, the first letter of Lachhu's name, and a beer stein, the beer stein being a popular mark among kami.

IMHO, you are 90% correct and I very well be incorrect. However, I don't believe a beer stein is typical of just but a few Kamis. I don't recognize it in this case but, again I could be wrong as I often am

The first character is "ra" and the second ive been told my a members wife that knows how to read the language is "ya" but from my experience id say that the second character is "ba" and not "ya" hence the slash through the bulbous thang but what do I know? Heck I dont know im redneck Texan so hes prolly right. Nonetheless it means ray of light as in ray of sunlight! That definitely is Lachhu tho. Lachhu IS HI. Hes been there forever providing us with all the goods no matter what happens to us or HI. He is always there! Quality is second to none! I got plenty of his work and he is superb! Enjoy that blade for a lifetime and welcome to HI and the forum.

Yep Tirtha is beer stein kami and if its turned sideways i think it was Murali? not real sure but i do know Tirthas mark. Its actually a Madal drum but looks like a beer mug to me and ill drank to that as i am right now so dont take my word for nothing at this point. Happy Boxing day!

Hi,
I can read Devnaagri, which is the script for both Sanskrit and Hindi. The side that says UB for Uncle Bill also says "Hi" "Ee", which I believe is for Himalayan Imports. On the other side, the two letters above the mark of the sun are "Ra"and "Vi" (the Vi is the beer stein, the consonant V and the line and loop for the vowel "ee"), which would imply the name is Ravi. The word Ravi means Sun, hence the symbol below is the sun. I have the same symbols on my 18" CAK

Regards.

That is a Lacchu blade, if it was Tirtha, his beer stein would be where the sun is located in the 2nd pic. Looks like a WWII, but not 100% sure.
