A small group of us are making some knives. The design will be robust, with a blade length approx. 12". I would classify it as an all-around heavy duty field knife/light chopper.

We are leaning toward kydex for custom sheaths. Does anyone know who does first-rate custom kydex work? As a second choice we might consider leather. Who does excellent leather sheaths?

Second, we like linen micarta as a grip mat'l. Is there something better? Why or why not?

Finally, can you recommend a source for knifemaking supplies - micarta, grip screws, etc.? We are only interested in top quality - no junk.

Thanks.

I've had great luck with www.PopsKnifeSupplies.com for supplies, especially grinder belts. Pop is a great guy, very knowledgeable about knifemaking. I strongly recommend you check with him and his website.

SheffieldSupply.com has a downloadable catalog. People there are friendly and provide good service, and their prices for steel are some of the best around.

A guy around here with the username Normark (I think) does great synthetic sheaths in Kydex and Concealex. You might run a search for him. Haven't had any first hand experience, but I've heard only the best about him and his sheaths.

I'll second Chang's high opinion of Eric at On/Scene Tactical. I own several of his sheaths and they are all of excellent quality.
The design, materials and fit and finish are all top notch, and Eric is a great guy to deal with.
his website is:

Take care,
