I picked up my first sebenza today! It was a small sebbie with computer graphics for an unbelievable price, just couldn't pass it up.

It is pretty hard to open, I guess cause I got it in like new condition and I'm uses to the axis lock helping me on my bm. Anyway, the question I have is, will it be easier to open over time as I get used to the blade or is the pivot too tight and should I loosen it to my desire. I also want to know if a small sebbie is california legal? I know there is something about knife laws and under 3" and I know the small sebbie is 2.94." There is a lot of stuff to be found online about knife laws, but I find it easier to just ask. (:

I got a brand new one two Thursdays ago that has finally become nice to open, after opening it maybe at a minimum 50 times each day since I got it. Both of my index fingers and thumbs are sore from breaking it in, but it is really smooth now (not as smooth as my older one that's been around since May, though).

There are a couple threads in the CRK forum about the topic. This is the latest one: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=785012 and here's the one before that from a few days earlier http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=784503

The sebenza will loosen up over time, but will always have that hydraulic feel when opening it and closing it. Its just the design of it. Some CRK greese will deinately help. The pivot screw is designed to just tighten down and your good to go. The tolerances are so tight, when you tighten it down, its perfectly set up. Enjoy your sebenza, I have had many of them and they are well worth their price, plus CRK has the best warrenty in the business.

Kreole has pointed you to the right place on the forums.

Sebenzas have a pivot bushing, which basically makes the blade "float" between the two phosphor bronze washers. Tightening or loosening the pivot will do nothing to affect the tightness of the blade itself. The beauty of the design is that even when partially disassembled, with the male screw removed, the knife will still lock up solidly.

Thanks for all the help, to be honest I'm pretty scared of the knife especially because I'm not used to frame locks so I've been at it all day, opening, closing, and I'm kind of getting the hang of it. I think this knife is a keeper, especially if it passes all the california legal laws.

On another note, I got a great deal on a nice, lightly used, near new 08 comp graphics Sebenza. A really nice guy offered $100 for it, best $100 I've spent in ages. No way I could pass up on a deal like that...

The sebbie has a firm but buttery smooth opening that is incomparable to anything else. It's hard to explain it. You mentioned having a hard time opening the blade so that is more because of a tight detent than anything else. The detent will smooth over time for sure as the ceramic detent ball and steel detent hole smooths out. Congrats on getting your small sebbie at a good price, I'm sure you will love it.

HOLY $%*&!!!

Fixed the ending for you. :)
What a CRAZY GOOD price!!!

Great steel and there is a certain way to opening the Sebenza as well. You could find more information in the CRK sub forum here.

Congratulations on what will be one of your best buys of all time!

i concur!

To answer your other question, it is California State legal. There is actually no length limit on folders in California state law.

The problem is, California has local laws that trump state law. So you need to check your City and Local Ordinances to make sure that the knife is legal. It sucks, but just by driving from one part of the state to another, you may have commited multiple crimes by passing through cities/counties where the knife in your pocket was illegal to carry. :(

Hope that helps...
