I've been wanting a Bark River for a while now but I dont have alot of extra cash so when I saw a BRKT Pro Scalpel for $68.00 I thought this might be my chance. So now I need some help.

First I guess I should list what I would want to use the knife for. It would be a camping, utility, edc, and might see some use while makeing food and possibly hunting if it has to. It probly wont be an only knife when I expect big tasks but it might be when I only go camping for a day or two or on a hike.

So here ar my questions,
1. Would it fit my needs.
2. Is $68.00 a good price for a Pro Scalpel w/ black canvas micarta handles or can I find it cheaper some where else? With the cheapest shiping it would be $75.55 and I know some places online ship free.

Thanks!

Well, I own one, and it's pretty handy to have around. That 1.7" blade is razor sharp! However, while it's a nice all-around knife to have in the office or at home, it will have limitations in the field. I trust my mini-canadian a lot more though. The blade on the scalpel is just about .093 inch thick and the mini-can is .153 inches, so, it's a lot stouter.

For the money, a Buck 110 would suit you better as an all-arounder, I think. ymmv.

I do not have a pro scalpal but I have a mini and psk. It's not much more trouble to carry those than a folder, but then I have a purse. They fit fine in my pocket though. The psk with the little kydex sheath has a cutting edge the size of the mini and is still unnoticable in the pocket. I like the idea of one of those pocket sheaths and little flashlight loop.

Forgot to mention how useful the mini is. It really doesn't function like a small knife at all and the convex edge is silly crazy to maintain. It feels good in the hand too, I got mine in red linen micarta and it doesn not feel slippy. It might be due more because of the shape of the handle.
