Thanks for the details, is there anyway to know by looking at one without knowing when it was bought is is made from 440C, 425 or 420HC? What where the hardness ranges for the 440C and 425 models?

Yes, there is a way to tell, on most of them anyways. There was a period of time between 1972 and 1986 that is hard to identify. If you send me an email with a close up of the handle, or just describe the spacer configuration on both ends of the handle, I will do my best.
