Questions on the CQC7A [99]

Hey folks,
I just recieved my belated christmas present from my fren, 2 CQC7As...As I loom at the knives, and feel it, there are 2 main differences on the overall, both are marked as [CQC-7 A SATIN SERRATED 50/50], but one feels to be beadblasted to me, whereas the other one seems to be coated, I was wondering wherether this one is one of the CN CQC7s?...could someone kindly advise me on this issue? ps: the Blade finish feels smoother then that of the other CQC7A, and there is a serial number on it being 991. Could someone kindly give me more information on these 2 knives?

Btw, I love these knives...I always liked the looks of the CQC7, but have been put of getting one for a long time due to some bad experience of Screws stripping of the Benchmade's CQC7 [BM975SBT]...

Thanks in Advance

If it were a Chromium Nitrate (aka "CN") CQC7B, it would look almost identical to a HC "Satin" CQC7B. Matter of fact, you have to hold them side by side to see a difference in the finish. The CN is a shade darker (in the ones I have had). The CN CQC7B will also be dated 99, will have a serial number prefix of "CN" and will have a serial number between "CN001" to "CN500".

The Benchmade CQC7 left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth, myself included. When Ernie began making the EKI CQC7s (both "A" & "B" models), there were several changes made, for the better. Better contoured G10 scales, no hex screws, made so that you can carry it tip up and most importantly, the issue you brought up, the screws are tapped into the Titanium liners, not into G10. Meaning your less likely to strip your screws doing maintenance on your carry knife.

Hey John...
Mine apears to be as what you have described, but just that mine doesn't have the CN prefix, but only the number 991...so i'm still not too sure as to which version mine is...Derek?
