Hey everyone!

I've been looking at some used knives and saw a sweet 940-1 but I've been reading the warranty info and it's steering me away from buying used.

Are customers really voiding the warranty for wanting to disassemble their knifes for cleaning? I'm not trying to mod my knifes but I sure as heck don't want to send me knife out to be cleaned Everytime it needs a heavy cleaning.

Anyone use Benchmades warranty in 2018 for clarification?

Thanks for any info!

Hopefully the Benchmade officiant will speak up -- but anecdotal evidence points to this: as long as it's an authentic product, they'll warranty it, no questions asked!

For what it's worth, the only Benchmade I've ever sent in for service was one that I'd disassembled (and even stripped a tiny torx screw on). They didn't bat an eye, just fixed the thing, replaced the hardware in question, and sent it back to me.

I've disassembled every Benchmade I've ever owned, and not given it a second thought.

Why take one apart? What are you doing with a knife to get it that dirty anyway. Benchmade makes quality knives. I'd pick up a cheap beater for dirty work. Benchmade ( I just sent them two to tweak for me) warranties their knives for life and sharpens them lifetime for free. If a spring breaks they replace it for free. Why risk screwing with their warranty by taking it apart? Go take your cellphone apart and screw with that if thats your thing

At the end of 2017, I sent in two knives for the first time for Lifesharp. One was purchased used. I received both knives back 100%, including all new hardware (without request). One may or may not have been in aftermarket scales and swapped back to factory scales before being sent in. YMMV.

It is well accepted here that one take apart a knife for regular maintenance.

No worries. Just don't send them a bag of parts.

Their warranty also says if they find the one you sent them was a counterfit BM, you don't get it back. So also be aware of that when sending one in for warranty work.

I've sent several in for various work over the years and never had a problem with their service...I also was never asked how many owners the blades had.

I've had no problems from Lifesharp or general CS when I've sent in the second-hand ones I've gotten.

I bought a used and modifided 940-1. It had the blade replaced with a 943 blade and someone had painted the standoffs and homemade omega springs. I requested that it be put back to factory. They replaced the blade with an s90v reverse tanto, replaced omega springs and replaced standoffs. Only charged me the $30 blade replacement fee. So suffice to say their warranty is AWESOME! You need not worry about disassembly because this knife was obviously taken completely apart.

I actually have a question about their warranty department too, what happens if you send in a discontinued knife for a blade swap? If that's even possible, I should add. I'm sure they'd replace all they could, omega springs, screws, and such like that.. But what about blades?

That questions been on my mind about my mini Ritter. It'd be so badass if they'd replace it with a new Ritter blade, but I have feeling that wouldn't happen.

I've sent 2 Benchmades in for warranty work. In both cases their work exceeded expectations and they did not ask for proof of purchase.

It depends on the model but once a model is discontinued the blades get pretty scarce. There is a also a blade swap fee involved.

That was my fear, but at the same time I won't be using my mini Ritter to split some coconuts any time soon, haha.

Thanks for the information, Jimmy!

Do BkC let you know when you're knife has been shipped.and is there any tracking.
