hey everyone I just got my bk2 and have some questions... alright first question- whats the coating made of? this stuff is ruff! my second Question- does this coating make it harder to cut through trees? I was thinking about stripping the coating off.. thanks all :D

If I remember correctly it's an epoxy based coating. You shouldn't really notice much of a difference with batoning and chopping between being stripped vs not on the 2. On some of the thinner knifes like the 14 it's a bit more noticeable but still isn't much of a difference.

It's a Hybrid Epoxy/Polyester powdercoat that textures when going through the oven. I like the coating but would suggest that you smooth it out a little with some sandpaper.

I bought it for a camping trip and expect to do a lot of batoning, im glad to know that I shouldn't have a problem.. my friend has one and the coating was smooth, why did they make it rough?

People wanted a more durable coating and the change was also made to distinguish it from the other Ka-Bars as part of their Master series (Becker, JAB etc.).

this coating does seem really durable. but either way I may still strip it if it gets really bad looking..thanks for the info everyone
