Hello I am new to BladeForums and hoped someone could answer some questions I had specifically about ordering from the blemished posts. I noticed only one length is posted, is this the blade length? Do the handles have a standard length? Also what is usual shipping cost? Is it included in the price? Thank you and I am very sorry if I posted this in the wrong place or if this information is easily found and I overlooked it.

Shipping is usually $20, CONUS.

Length is OAL (overall length, tip to handle)

I don't think handles are standardized.

Steel is spring steel (5160 I believe), same as used in truck suspension.

Read the stickies at the top.

Himalayan imports makes top notch knives with the best available material -- the spring steel is great, and the craftsmen are second to none. if you want overnight shipping you can get for 40 dollars , as flip said, but other than that: If you buy an HI blade you will not be disappointed, and afterwards all other knives will seem hollow and empty when you hold them in your hand.(this is what happened to me)

YES! What he said! They are alive! We in the CON US usually get our blades in a few days if in stock item or DOTD and customer service is absolutely the best.

Greeting fellow members,

Knew to this forum and I like machetes. I own a Kabar and a Condor. I am wondering if anyone can answer my question ...... which is better a camp axe or a strong machete?? Does Condor make any machetes that are strong enough to build a log cabin? I am looking for a thick blade machete to use as an axe. Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing??

Thanks,
MJ

well if there is such a thing it will probably some style of khukuri made by HI :D, almost all of them are great for softwoods, you probably need a chiruwa for hardwood and I think they are on backorder right now ! A good axe is better for log cabining but the khukuri is good for the field and the dressing of animals and other goods for human use including fire wood etc, ideally you should have a few tools , including a pistol :D

but a bonecutter, ganga ram, chiruwa ang khola, ( most ang khola's really) are all really great camp knives.a KVLUK or villager utility knife is probably what you really want , just hang around and they do come up for sale on forum occasionally

Thank you everyone for your graciousness and all your information. I actually went ahead and bought a GI4 from thekhukurihouse because I became way too impatient and didn't have enough funds for the models I was interested in from HI but I do want one, very much so. I plan on saving up next for one just can't really decide between the wwII, M43, or Ang khola. Looking for the best weapon/survival tool khukuri wise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. For now I'm going to watch this forum like a hawk for any blemished/DoD I might want and keep on saving for a brand new if I'm not that lucky. Thank you all again.

that is your best bet aleo, wait for your Dotd and the blems, then you can compare HI to that thing you bought to substitute , then you will sigh and forever put away the inferior blade, and your HI collection will only grow.

Just to clarify, the DOTDs sold on this forum are brand new. There are blems, usually with handle cracks that are easily fixed, sometimes with a little surface rust on the blades that is easily removed. The blems are a very good buy. There are also perfect knives that are sold here rather than the HI online store, either because they are overstock or because they are sizes or models that are not listed at the HI onlline store.

From what I understand, if you're lucky you might get a real nice blade from the competitors in Nepal, but their quality control, fit and finish are not up to HI standards, shipping charges are high, and if you have a problem you're dealing with someone in Nepal rather than Yangdu in Nevada (probably the best customer service you'll ever encounter). Also, some of the models listed by khukurihouse seem to me flashy designs that might have tourist appeal but are not very practical. Like the ones with the sawtooth spine, guaranteed to rip up the scabbard, or your hand, and unsuitable for batoning.

The WWII, M43 and Ang Khola are all good blades. I generally think of the AK (or CAK) as dedicated choppers. The M43 might be a bit more of an all-around blade, still very strong for chopping. The WWII usually run lighter weight (for a given length) than the others, which is an advantage for weapon and survival, and their thick spine make them good choppers as well. In the end, what you get will depend on what calls to you, or maybe which model comes up as a DOTD at the time when you have the funds.

Not sure if your serious or not, but here goes, Condor makes some good machetes I have the golok and the 14 el salvador and I like both of them. However if your wanting something to build a log cabin Condor makes axes too. I think that would be your best bet along with a saw. Now to direct you for heavy work like that I would suggest a CAK. This while I think would not be optimum for building a log cabin it will easily build you a temporary shelter to get you out of the elements. Another good option would be the M43. I personally would use a saw first and the CAK or M43 as a secondary if building a cabin in this manner.

Gentlemen,

This is the Himalayan Imports subforum showroom floor. If you would like to discuss other manufacturers, please kindly take it to a more appropriate forum.

So I decided to sell off two of my lower end katana's for some quick $$$ to buy the HI Khukuri I fell in love with, especially when I found this image on the web. The M43, only problem is when I go to checkout it doesn't give the option for handle material. The one pictured at checkout has a light colored wooden handle I don't really find personally appealing. I really wanted a black horn handle with my new M43. Is their a specific E-mail or way I should go about asking if they have any in stock or ask for one with this handle material? Thank you and I hope to be joining you guys in the fold soon enough!
