I'm full of them today!
I've been wondering about the Remote Release knife. Looks kinda interesting, I'm guessing that the "barrel release" on it is pushed down and that pulls the gate open? Kinda hard to tell from the photos. Has the weak spring that I read about been fixed? How does it compare to the Rescue?
That brings another question, how about Rescue vs. Rescue Jr? Is the extra half inch on the regular Rescue worth it?
Well, just to get some comments, my current wish list for knives are the Remote Release, a Rescue, and a Benchmade that I can't remember the model number of. I think it was the 835, but we can ignore it for now since this is the Spyderco forum... Well, that's everything for now.

JR, I'm sorry I don't have an answer to any of your questions, but something really caught my attention. You registed as a Member in July and this is your first post? Man I nominate you for, "King of the Lurkers!"
I hope somebody posts you with some answers, because it seems like you're the type of person that only posts when they really have a question that needs answering.
Welcome!

Well, I cant answer if the spring has been fixed but in regards to the length question. You would be surpised how much difference an inch makes. (get your minds out of the gutter I'm talking about knives

) A prime example is the cold steel voyager. There is a huge difference betwwen the 4" and 5". the smaller rescue may be easier to carry, but the larger one is more knife to work with.

And I second the king of the lurkers nomination.

I bought a serrated Remote Release a month or two back. I hang it on a belt loop when I go out back to water. The spring on mine seems quite adequate and snaps the pin/bolt closed with authority. I haven't gotten any dirt into the works yet, tho.
The blade is about 3" long and a wide thick brute of AUS8 and so far has held a very good edge. I have harvested fruit and tomatoes, pruned some rose bushes, and hacked at some stray shoots on a couple fruit tree trunks. I also have been cutting out cardboard rectangles for the wife to wind her stash of fabric onto for stacking on shelves. Gone thru about 5 medium sized corrugated boxes so far. It does a good job and remains sharp. Its a capable cutter and seems very strong.
I do have trouble opening it onehanded. There is no pocket clip and the very slim scale on the opposite side from the slide mechanism housing makes getting a good grip for leveraging the blade open a tad hard for me. That scale does have a grippy rubber/kraton insert for a good grip after it is open tho.
I like the knife as its a handy carry and the Spyderedge makes it cut like crazy.

JR - Yes the strength on the barrel spring has been increased, though many didn't think it necessary..

Size is personal and relative to the need and the local laws.

Thanx for making the Spyderco forum your first post.

Keep on postin'
