first of all, i don't own any rat knives, but i really want one and am hopefully getting an rc-4 soon. even sooner i want to get an izula. but i have alot of questions:
1 is the izula's scelotonized handle prone to breakning or snapping?
2 if i do decide to get a larger RAT like an rc-5 or 6, will they still be able to do small camp chores like food prep?
3 is a neck knife like the izula dangerous, do they have a tendency to fall out the sheath?
4 is kydex heat-resistant? i once left a mora's plastic sheath in the hot sun and it started bubbling!

5 this is kind of an odd-ball question, but im really intrested in the rat laser-strike, does anyone know the release date or msrp?
all answers are well apreciated!

1. I've never heard of anyone breaking one in normal use. Use common sense and don't Nossify it and you'll be fine.

2. I imagine that of the two larger ones the RC-6 would do better for food prep due to a thinner blade and full flat grind.

3. Probably no more dangerous than anything else.

4. No idea.

5. There are plans to produce the Laser Strike, but no release date or price yet.

My Dear Friend,

1. Is the izula's scelotonized handle prone to breakning or snapping?

Hardly. I don't recommend twisting it to split fire logs while using a crossbar, but for any normal, reasonable camp chores it will do very well.

2. If i do decide to get a larger RAT like an rc-5 or 6, will they still be able to do small camp chores like food prep?

It has been my experience that large knives will do practically any job that a smaller knife will do. The vice is not versa.

BTW - look hard at the RC-4. Trust me on this.

3. Is a neck knife like the izula dangerous, do they have a tendency to fall out the sheath?

Not in my experience. I have never had it happen with any neck knife and the RAT knives are particularly good in this regard. Don't sweat it.

4. Is kydex heat-resistant? i once left a mora's plastic sheath in the hot sun and it started bubbling!

Kydex is different from plastic - Kydex might get *really* warm but should be fine after it cools off. It becomes fairly pliable at about 225 - 250 degrees if I recall, but if the sun is that hot you probably want to seek shelter immediately and take your knife with you. ;)

1. have not heard of one breaking ..use the proper tool...:D
2. Yes ,to me the RC6 is a fine camp tool, the rc5 will do the same just a tad heavier than the 6
3. me & my wife & son all carry an Izula never had one issue with a loose sheath,I say NO from my experience
4. the Izula sheath is molded plastic not a kydex one. never left one in the sun....I wore around neck all day and no issues
5. the Laser strike is on the table but no dates have been firmed up to start production therefore we have no price base as of yet.
:D

Don't leave the Izula sheath in your car, because the round thingies that hold the knife in will sort of melt.

I agree with all of these.

Although I will say the RV 6 is a bit of a better slicer due to the thickness of the RC 5

Hi Jonathan.

1. I doubt it will break unless you put it under extreme stress because it is metal.
2. I would think they could because some of my kitchen knives are bigger than them.
3. I have only heard of once the izula coming out of the sheath unintentionaly and it was when something pulled it out.
4. I doubt it would because as previously said it is not plastic.
5. Not known yet.
