Queston on Kaala Sheath

Hi guys, I just bought one of these but it isn't here yet. Is the button on the sheath that retains the knife removable? I read somewhere that the little button on the Hartsook sheath is via a phillips screw from the back, but can't find any info on the Kaala sheath. I called Buck and they said it wasn't, but why would they make the Hartsook one removable and the Kaala one not? The reason I care is I thought of cord wrapping the handle (which the Kaala is designed for) but once I do that, that front hole in the handle will be filled so the button will just be in the way I assume. Let me know guys, I really appreciate it.

The Kaala wasn't really made for a cord wrap even though most people tend to try it at least once, me included. Tom Mayo just likes cool holes in all his products like the TNT and anything else he does. To answer your question, yes it can be removed just like the hartsook.

Thanks Heng, I guess what made me think of wrapping this knife was on the Buck website where they say:

"Handle Material: S30V skeleton with lightening holes sized for parachute cord" :D

and this picture I found:

If one removes that little button, does the knife still want to stay in due to friction? If not, might have to have a custom Kydex made up.

FWIW I read one post in which a fella said he had wrapped his Kaala in cord, but that, because the button on the sheath could not engage, the knife was not secure in the sheath.

Man, that's pretty  But really I think I'll stick with Kydex if I have to have a custom sheath made, as I would still use the knife for a neck knife. Who do you guys recommend for custom Kydex sheaths? I have bought some from CustomSheath, but nothing for a knife so far. I have been very happy with his other work though, really nice Atwood and battery holders

You did a nice job with that handle.

It is very easy to cord wrap the handle and still use the original sheath. Just wrap the handle up to where it meets the sheath. I did this 6 or 8 months ago and EDC it. It has given me no problem and works very well as the wrap creates a choil at this point. My Kaala does have a screw in the back of the button. If the button is removed you will have to find a different way to keep it in the sheath.
It is a great knife, I am sure you will like it.

Flatlander you did a great job on those handles! Nice looking rig.
