Does anyone know if there is a quick and easy way to remove steel blueing?
If this has been asked before, sorry, just point me to a thread, I searched but I didn't really find anything. Thanks.

Depending on how well, and deep, the blueing. Birchwood Casey Blue and Rust remover will do the trick. Cheaper the blueing the easier it is to remove. There are other brands as well, I used to use G96 Blue Remover but I haven't seen it in years.

Available at better sporting goods and gun dealers.

Any acid should do it . Naval jelly will [ phosphoric acid in a gel] .Vinegar ,or citric acid too.

Naval Jelly, and many other acids including vinegar, will remove blueing depending on the blueing of course, however they may well "patina" the metal underneath. For example Naval Jelly can almost blacken some.

Gun Blue remover such as G96 would remove the blueing and leave bare metal behind untinted (no patina).

I had a side by side shotgun Hot "Belgium" blued and no amount of G96 or Birchwood Casey would remove it. Hardness, depth, .... I don't know but I had to have it buffed out before I could have it professionally redone after the barrel had been scratched/gouged in a car accident.

I have used Naval Jelly to put a patina that was almost black on hatchets.
